Description POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: Maintenance Worker FLSA: Non-Exempt SECRETARIAT: Temporalties STATUS: Part-Time INTRODUCTION TO THE DIOCESE OF MANCHESTER: The Bishop of Manchester is the visible principal and foundation of unity in the particular diocese entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ’s mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Each position employed in the Diocesan Administration Building helps to extend the minstry of the bishop in specific ways as outlined in the position description. All employees of the diocesan administration assist the Bishop of Manchester in serving the parishes, schools and institutions of the Catholic Church in New Hampshire. This is a part-time position (approximately 15 hours per week), reporting to the Maintenance Technician under the Director of Real Estate and Construction. RESPONSIBILITIES: This support position provides light maintenance and cleaning for the diocesan administration building. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Assure the Diocesan Administration Building is maintained in a clean and orderly manner by mopping and vacuuming floors, cleaning bathrooms, and washing windows. Maintain wood furniture that requires oiling and maintenance. Provide other general assistance as needed through setting up chairs, tables in the facilities as requested, hauling and moving items, and picking up parts or other equipment as requested by staff. Assure the collection and disposal of trash and garbage. Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Technician ENVIRONMENT: Work required both indoors and outdoors in various types of weather Minimal exposure to chemicals related to cleaning supplies and solutions as well as maintenance equipment. Lifting and carrying objects up to fifty pounds occasionally required Frequent hand manipulation is required in operating controls and equipment Frequent bending and climbing (stairs/ladders) required Requirements EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Experience: 1-3 years’ experience in custodial work. Skills: Ability to use various pieces of equipment such as small hand tools, floor buffers, vacuums, mops & brooms, rakes & shovels. Successful work experience in minor repair work in carpentry and painting. Successful work experience implementing a comprehensive cleaning plan for a facility, including sweeping, dusting, washing, and waxing. Ability to lift 50 pounds Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
