Description The Maintenance/Custodial staff member ensures that the facility remains clean, safe, and well-maintained. This position supports daily custodial tasks, light maintenance work, and general facility upkeep to create a welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and the community. This is a part time role with variable hours as needed to support our full time maintenance staff. The hourly rate for this role is $17.00. This position is expected to be available when deemed necessary by the Director of Facilities for snow days, weekend events, etc. About the School Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor. Responsibilities include: Perform routine custodial duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal. Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and common areas. Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, minor repairs, and reporting issues that require additional attention. Set up and break down rooms for events, meetings, or activities as needed. Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisor when restocking is needed. Ensure all equipment and tools are used safely and stored properly. Maintain outdoor areas as assigned (e.g., light snow removal, sweeping walkways, picking up debris). Follow all safety procedures and report hazards promptly. Provide general support to the facilities team as needed. Requirements Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred but not required. Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working independently and managing time effectively. Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety. Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions. Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends if needed. Work Environment: This role involves standing, walking, bending, and performing physical tasks for extended periods. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and occasional outdoor weather conditions.
