Unlike traditional hospitality environments, The Lone Rock Foundation Retreat is not open 365 days a year. We only host groups up to 60 people and we only flip rooms 2-3 times of week due to our minimum two-night stay. Our calendar aligns with the rhythms of the education community, which often means time off during major holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s—creating a healthier work-life balance for our team.

POSITION SUMMARY?

The Director of maintenance is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, overall maintenance, safety, infrastructure, and long-term sustainability of our land and campus. This position oversees the maintenance and grounds team, manages building systems and utilities, and ensures all facilities—from our wellness amenities to our wilderness trails—are operating safely, efficiently, and in alignment with our organizational values. Ensures the highest standards of guest and team member experience, strategic growth, and representation of the establishment on property and in the local community.
Effectively handles guest needs, manages team members, maximizes expense dollars, and operational effectiveness. Partners with Executive Director in strategies to become a self-sustaining nonprofit organization. Makes critical decisions, leads and manages all levels of team members, and motivates others to achieve a high performing team and operations focused on the mission.
Drive high levels of satisfaction to heighten the number of repeat groups. Manage vendor relationships and contracts to ensure vendors are working within their scope and billing us accordingly. Create strategies to ensure the right mix or vendor to staff activity.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in hotel or asset engineering/maintenance oversight. Must have a strong knowledge of systems including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, and energy controls.
Must have experience with capital planning and implementation of large-scale projects.
Must have experience with budgeting, inventory management, and purchasing for maintenance operations.
Must have an ability to lead and inspire people in a way that creates a sense of community and loyalty. Must have an in-depth knowledge and experience with Microsoft office applications and system. Must have the ability to work well within a group, delegate to employees, as well as demonstrate the skills and patience to train, educate enhance, and nurture skills of the team members.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be able to read and comprehend mechanical documents. Ability to read and interpret manuals, operating instructions and written policies. Ability to speak clearly and listen attentively to both guests and staff members. Must possess effective communications skills with the ability to speak and write professionally with tact.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, decimals and percentages.

Located 40 mins from downtown Denver at 30 minutes from the foothill areas we are easy to get to and right off of Highway 285. We believe in the power of intentional hospitality to foster connection, learning, and well-being. Nestled in an inspiring natural setting, our nonprofit private retreat center supports the education community—by offering them a peaceful space to rest, reflect, and recharge.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership

  • In partnership with the Executive Director, further develop Lone Rock Retreat’s brand and brand experience to its external (guests) and internal (team members) customers.
  • Design a sustainable and scalable business and operational model that can be replicated easily yet still allow for flexibility to the individual retreat.
  • Integrate training, cultural, and environmental components to Pahara Institute and Charter School’s philosophies, where it makes sense to ensure alignment of how we operate and who we serve.
  • Participate in community connection efforts with the local area in addition to the educational communities that we serve.
  • Maintain a library of best practices to ensure future campus builds incorporate lessons learned from village one.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, create a strategic plan for land management.
  • Participates in total campus strategies as a member of the executive leadership team.

Compliance & Sustainability

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, fire safety, and other state/local regulations.
  • Champion energy efficiency, water conservation, and sustainability efforts across the property.
  • Monitor budgets and recommend cost-effective solutions without compromising safety or quality.

Technology & Systems

  • Oversee building automation systems, access controls, and communication infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate logs and reporting systems for maintenance, inspections, and safety checks.

Operational Leadership

  • Be accessible 24/7 to handle and/or assist in emergency or urgent needs.
  • Is a contact for emergency alert systems. Responds to alerts.
  • Ensures emergency alert systems are functioning properly.
  • Work as Manager on Duty, with total campus oversight, on assigned weekends that are rotated with other property leadership team members.
  • Partner with the program planners to ensure a successful guest experience including any operational or culinary programing needs to maximize the guest learning and growth experiences.
  • Facilitates the development of creative solutions to overcome obstacles and ensures implementation to continually improve guest satisfaction results and long term sustainability of the property.
  • Execute and manage operating budgets to support the financial health of the asset.
  • Monitor guest feedback surveys each week. Ensure constructive feedback is addressed and that the operation pivots as necessary. Recognize positive feedback.
  • Reviews reports and financial statements to determine departments performance against budget.
  • Coaches and supports team to effectively manage wages and controllable expenses.
  • Reviews budgeted wages to actual wages, coaching direct reports to address problem areas and holding team accountable for results.
  • Analyze vendors rates to ensure services align with contracts and are being billed accordingly.
  • Ensure the wellness of guests and team members including all life safety aspects of the operation.
  • Oversee all team member leadership responsibilities: set expectations with the teams, recruit, recognize, coach, train and support team member growth and fulfillment.
  • Create and foster an excellent work environment, centered upon mission, teamwork and mutual respect and effective communication processes.
  • Solicits feedback, utilizes an “open door policy” and conduct team member one on ones to identify and address concerns.
  • Create, implement and track digital maintenance programs that ensures the asset is kept at a high standard now and well into the future.
  • Ensure life safety programs are developed and in place to include emergency procedures, wildlife procedures and general liability and safety programs for the asset.
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture, cultivate feedback and ideas from the team as well as my own to continue to evolve the Lone Rock Retreat business model.
