JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a mechanically adept, highly organized, and motivated Maintenance Engineer and Manager and to join our leadership team. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical instincts and engineering training who is ready to lead and grow. This position will oversee the facility’s maintenance operations, manage a team of 15 technicians, and drive continuous improvement in reliability and performance from plant equipment including but not limited to the following: vats, saws, de-barkers, planers, slicers, lathes, dryers, boilers, tanks, clippers, stackers, rollers, conveyors, cranes, trucks, forklifts, etc.
This is a high-impact, hands-on role that would work and report directly to the Company President, offering visibility and influence at the leadership level. It’s a great fit for someone who wants to take ownership of plant performance and build their leadership career from a strong technical foundation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Engineering background or technical training in mechanical systems (degree preferred, but strong experience also considered)
  • High mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in troubleshooting and repairing industrial machinery
  • Organized, proactive, and unwavering individual capable of managing people, schedules, and technical documentation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to take ownership of solutions from diagnosis through implementation
  • Natural problem-solver who enjoys hands-on work and continuous improvement
  • Excellent leadership, communication teamwork abilities
  • Ambition to grow within the company and take on increasing responsibility and leadership

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Familiarity with CMMS software or digital maintenance tracking tools
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in maintenance or operations
  • Strong computer / technical skills (MS Office, AutoCAD, PLCs, maintenance software)
  • Prior experience in wood veneer or other tangential industries
Responsibilities
  • Maintenance Team Leadership
  • Supervise, develop and support a team of ~15 technicians responsible for day-to-day repair and preventive maintenance
  • Assign and schedule all maintenance work based on priorities, production needs, and technician strengths across all shifts
  • Monitor operations and performance of plant equipment and systems to ensure proper maintenance and optimize performance
  • Build a safe, organized, and high-performing maintenance operation
  • Mechanical Problem Solving
  • Diagnose equipment issues and lead the team in identifying fast, effective, and lasting solutions
  • Analyze machine failures and implement improvements to reduce downtime and increase efficiency
  • Work directly with mechanical systems—motors, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatic, etc.
  • Planning & Documentation
  • Develop and maintain an accurate maintenance scheduling system used to plan and track all maintenance work, equipment performance, and unplanned downtime (using CMMS or similar)
  • Keep detailed records of all repair activities, including parts used, time to complete, and root cause
  • Provide updates and recommendations to company leadership for improvements and capital planning

  • Partner with production leads to coordinate maintenance and reduce unplanned downtime
  • Work with outside vendors, contractors, and service providers as needed
  • Communicate clearly with leadership and technicians to keep everyone aligned and informed
