We are currently looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join our Alconbury site.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Maintenance Engineer is a key member of the engineering team, responsible for maintaining and improving machinery and equipment across the manufacturing areas to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This role includes implementing a planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme, providing rapid response to breakdowns, and supporting improvement projects. Additionally, the role involves ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, mentoring apprentices, and collaborating with contractors and other teams to achieve operational excellence.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate a programme of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and condition monitoring for key equipment and machinery across the manufacturing areas.
  • Ensure that machinery operates safely and efficiently, minimising downtime and maximising performance.
  • Assist with improvement and capital expenditure programs, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Manage and prioritise activities such as PPM schedules, repair tasks, and breaks to maintain equipment uptime.
  • Provide a fast and effective response to breakdowns within the manufacturing areas, ensuring disruptions to operations are minimised.
  • Liaise with the Engineering Manager to complete schedules and records for repairs or maintenance checks.
  • Conduct maintenance activities in line with risk assessments, method statements, and health and safety legislation.
  • Ensure tools and equipment used for maintenance purposes comply with health and safety regulations. Report any non-compliant tools or equipment to the Operations Manager.
  • Assist in ensuring contractors working on-site adhere to health and safety standards.
  • Mentor and train engineering apprentices, helping them develop correct engineering practices and skills.
  • Communicate with line management about any suspected damage caused by the mistreatment of equipment or machinery.
  • Work collaboratively with contractors and other teams to ensure maintenance and repair activities are effectively carried out.
