Job Description About this opportunity We are currently seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join our dedicated team at Pact Packaging NZ Avondale. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is critical to ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of all manufacturing equipment, site services, and infrastructure. You will play a key role in executing preventative maintenance, diagnosing faults, and responding to unplanned stoppages to maintain 100% factory uptime. This position also supports automation initiatives, infrastructure upkeep, and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. Your key responsibilities will be: Perform scheduled preventative and predictive maintenance using MEX, ensuring equipment reliability and recommending critical spare parts. Diagnose and repair equipment faults promptly and cost-effectively, conducting root cause analysis to prevent recurrence. Maintain essential site services including cooling systems, compressed air and gas ensuring uninterrupted operations. Oversee building and infrastructure maintenance, including electrical systems, and liaise with contractors and landlords as needed. Support automation initiatives by developing and commissioning solutions, upgrading equipment, and contributing to project planning and costing. Ensure full compliance with WHSE policies and relevant legislation, promoting a proactive safety culture and conducting inductions and training. Uphold high housekeeping and food safety standards in line with HACCP and GMP principles. Assist with engineering projects and fabrication tasks as directed by the Maintenance Manager. Your skills and experience: Maintenance and diagnostics engineering qualification (or equivalent). Proven technical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and CMMS (preferably MEX). Current EWRB EAS-EST accreditation or willingness to obtain (desirable). Excellent fault finding, diagnostic, teamwork, and communication skills. Self-motivated, adaptable, approachable, and professional. Familiarity with Office 365 and ability to work unattended.
