The role of Maintenance Engineering Manager will manage the shift engineers, the department has around 30 Engineers in the team. The team operate on a continental shift pattern giving cover 24/7 at CSF Newcastle, a large modern bakery manufacturing facility producing high volume, high quality frozen bread products .

SUMMARY OF WORK :

  • Assist with the training and development of others where appropriate.
  • Ensure effective communication
  • Ensure the Engineering systems are updated and managed
  • Undertake any additional responsibilities as required
  • Promote and participate in Food Safety Culture and GMP
  • Ensure that Housekeeping is maintained with the area kept in a clean and tidy condition at all times, e.g. Fire Exits are kept clear at all times
  • Support Food Safety investigations
  • Report any problems with ingredients or cleaning materials e.g. Suspect ingredients or ingredients which are not identified with batch numbers as per procedures
  • Timely completion of Health & Safety actions and being proactive in the identification, raising and closure of Near Misses
  • Workshop only to be used when working on jobs or computer based work such as inputting work orders, 5-WHY’s, Asset Care etc.
  • Ensure that the volume of work completed is suitable for the length of the shift worked
  • Ensure suitable allocation of resource for each task i.e. all engineers not attending every job
  • Labour hours must be an honest appraisal of actual work completed
  • Drive a ‘can do’ attitude through the team and positive behaviours
  • Empower engineers to enjoy a sense of progress at work contributes to their inner drive

Responsibilities

Are you a time served multi skilled engineering leader, with a passion for nurturing teams to get the best performance. Have you experience within manufacturing at a managing level, possess a positive attitude and have the ability to develop teams with drive and commitment .

MAIN DUTIES :

  • Reporting to the Engineering Manager/ Engineering Maintenance Manager with the responsibility for the Shift Engineering Leaders and Shift Teams operating 24 /7
  • To ensure the safe operation of all people, plant and equipment
  • Responsible for engineering permits to works including contractor control and monitoring when applicable
  • To ensure PPM’s are completed to a high standard utilising the Shire system for accurate planning and tracking. Challenge and improve the PPM with the shift teams
  • To coach the teams and develop their knowledge, skills and standards
  • Completion of Piranha Reports for all work completed by yourself and direct reports
  • Challenge engineering staff utilisation and completion rates for planned and unplanned works in line with the KPI
  • Take ownership of countermeasures that have been identified, plan and implement accordingly
  • To develop the knowledge of the shift teams and call upon the functional support from the wider Engineering team
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis into failures
  • Focus on Top 3 issues weekly in line with Production KPI
  • Responsible for the management of visitors and service providers
  • To attend tier meetings and support the Business Units and their teams
  • To develop the relationships of shift leader and production mangers/leaders in the running and reporting of the shift
  • Support the engineering manager by developing and ensuring compliance to both engineering quality and safety standards
  • Participate and communicate in detail with all team members at weekly meetings
  • Develop the training matrix for shift leaders and shift engineering teams
  • To conduct appraisal reviews and implement personal development plans for the engineering team members in line with site procedure assisted by the HR team
  • Lead the engineering teams to take ownership and responsibility for tool box audits, workshop standards and compliance to all quality system audits
  • Encourage an ‘open and honest’ culture to discuss any issues. Mistakes happen, lets discuss and resolve. Share knowledge.
  • Take a proactive role to ensure actions are taken to reduce downtime and increase efficiencies.
  • Identify your own development needs and agree action plan with Manager and HR
