Job Details Job Location: 0061 St. Philomena Parish, Des Moines - Des Moines, WA 98198 Position Type: Part Time Salary Range: $24.00 - $26.00 Hourly GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION PURPOSE The part-time Facilities Maintenance position is responsible for the general upkeep and safety of the parish and school buildings and grounds. This includes routine maintenance, minor repairs, vendor coordination, and support for construction projects. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who ensures that all facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained year-round. Key Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance to minimize failures in plumbing, mechanical, electrical, lighting, and heating systems (natural gas boilers). Diagnose and repair facility issues, including plumbing, mechanical, and minor electrical problems. Conduct routine tasks such as pressure washing, painting, carpentry, lighting checks, and workspace organization. Maintain and repair drip irrigation systems, including hoses, sprinkler heads, and timers. Take inventory of tools and maintenance supplies. Provide input for monthly and annual budgets related to maintenance, supplies, and capital repairs. Coordinate setup for special events (e.g., chairs, tables, equipment) and ensure facilities support for parish programs. Represent the parish in dealings with contractors for major maintenance, construction, and renovation projects. Monitor building and grounds security, including opening and closing procedures. Ensure parish grounds are clean, safe, and well-maintained. Qualifications Qualifications Proven experience as a facility maintenance worker or handyman. Familiarity with hardware, tools, and electrical equipment. Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. Knowledge of natural gas HVAC systems is a plus. Communication skills and ability to follow directions. Well-organized with attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Able to meet the physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation: Use ladders and mechanical lifts to access roofs and high-reach areas Ability to move boxes up to 50 lbs to deliver across campus Stand, kneel, bend, twist, and reach frequently Work indoors and outdoors year-round Operate tools and equipment such as vacuums, mops, brooms, riding mowers, saws, and lawn equipment Safely handle chemical cleaning agents Professional and respectful engagement with parishioners and guests Must pass a background check Must provide three non-relative references Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
