Purpose of the Role BGIS is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead our Self-Perform Technical Services operations across the Canterbury Region. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will oversee trades teams and ensure the successful delivery of planned and reactive maintenance services across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, building, and fire systems. You will work collaboratively with both client and BGIS teams to drive performance, compliance, safety, and operational excellence, while fostering a high-performing and engaged workforce. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who thrives in dynamic environments, demonstrates sound commercial acumen, and is passionate about delivering outstanding service outcomes. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage Trades Foremen, Vacant Team, and Trades staff across the region Oversee delivery of planned and reactive maintenance in line with contractual KPIs and SLAs Ensure compliance with all health & safety regulations and BGIS standards Manage budgets, forecasting, cost control, and financial performance Build and maintain strong client relationships Drive continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiencies Support workforce planning, performance management, and staff development Education, Experience & Skills Essential: Proven experience in Facilities Management, Maintenance Management, or Technical Services leadership Strong understanding of commercial maintenance across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, building and fire disciplines Demonstrated experience managing teams in multi-site or regional environments Solid financial acumen including budgeting and cost control Strong knowledge of Health & Safety regulations in New Zealand Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Full NZ driver licence Desirable: Relevant trade qualification or tertiary qualification in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related discipline Experience within Government, Healthcare, Education, or critical environments Experience working within self-perform maintenance models Project delivery exposure Workplace Flexibility This position will initially be based on-site within the Lower Southern Region. Flexibility may be considered based on operational requirements and performance. Regional travel will be required. Why Join BGIS?
