Description
This is an important position involving responsibility for planning, inspecting and supervising the building maintenance and repair program of a large school district. Employees of this class inspect buildings to identify maintenance and repair needs and inspect work in progress and at completion and are responsible for efficient and workman like performance of a variety of building, installing, maintaining and repairing tasks requiring a good knowledge of one or more of the electrical, mechanical or construction trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical repair, welding, sheet metal work, grounds, masonry, heating/air conditioning, sewage facilities maintenance and related trades. General supervision is exercised in choosing methods or procedures. This title differs from Maintenance Mechanic I in the greater responsibility for proper implementation and completion of a large project, requiring the coordination of many activities or trade skills. The Maintenance Mechanic (Foreman) would be expected to have a higher skill level than Maintenance Mechanic I. The work is reviewed by checking completed work, by periodic spot checks, or by reports to supervisor. Work is performed under general supervision of the Supervisor of Plant Maintenance or similar administrative head. Direct supervision is exercised over a number of Maintenance Mechanic staff.
