Description

Position Summary:
The Food Plant Maintenance Millwright is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting food processing equipment and machinery to ensure optimal production efficiency. This role requires expertise in mechanical systems, adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while minimizing downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform mechanical repairs, rebuilds, and preventative maintenance on food processing equipment (conveyors, mixers, pumps, packaging lines, etc.).
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
  • Install, align, and calibrate machinery and equipment according to specifications.
  • Preventative & Predictive Maintenance
  • Execute scheduled maintenance tasks to prevent equipment breakdowns.
  • Inspect and monitor machinery to identify potential issues before failure occurs.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities in CMMS systems.
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to company safety policies, GMPs, HACCP, and food safety regulations.
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, and work areas are sanitized and safe for food production.
  • Participate in safety training, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaboration & Support
  • Work closely with production teams to minimize downtime and support operational goals.
  • Assist with new equipment installations and commissioning of production lines.
  • Provide input on machinery upgrades and process improvements.
  • Fabrication & Technical Skills
  • Fabricate or modify machine parts as needed using welding, machining, or hand tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Operate forklifts, hoists, and other maintenance equipment safely.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed Industrial Millwright (Red Seal or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of maintenance experience in a food manufacturing or processing plant.
  • Strong mechanical skills with knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, and drives.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, PLCs, and automation systems (asset).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Knowledge of CMMS systems is preferred.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is an asset.

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, and humid environments.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing/walking for extended periods.
  • Availability to work various shifts, including weekends and on-call rotations.
