Description

The Perkins is seeking a proactive Maintenance Officer who will be responsible for the routine planned and corrective maintenance in both the North and South Perkins buildings. This position is offered on a ​full time​ permanent basis, primarily located at our state-of the-art medical research facilities in ​Nedlands​, with regular travel required to our Murdoch location.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Reporting to the Facility Manager, the Maintenance Officer responds to work orders for building maintenance, maintains the hardware and spare parts inventory, undertakes routine periodic workplace inspections and testing functions, and manages the gas storage facility. The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Safely and promptly responding to and carrying out allocated work orders relating to maintenance and hardware
  • Maintain and replace general hardware with a high level of attention to detail
  • Carry out basic carpentry and painting works as required/directed
  • Collect supplies and parts as required and maintain adequate inventory for servicing requirements
  • Ensure all goods and hazardous materials are stored as per WHS and other requirements
  • Ensure storage and work areas are clean, secure and well maintained
  • Work with the Facilities Management team to manage incoming large goods and equipment
  • Carry out routine inspection and testing functions, including testing emergency showers and electrical testing and tagging of appliances
  • Safely maintain, monitor and manage the stock holding of the gas storage facility and gas cylinders, including cryogenic and PLC dewars
  • Transport goods between Perkins locations as required

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU’LL HAVE:

  • Previous experience in a similar maintenance role
  • Sound attention to detail and the ability to perform high-quality work
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team and autonomously under general direction
  • The ability to proactively identify and report defects and issues
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with diverse customers, such as scientists, research assistants, students and administrative staff throughout the building
  • Understanding and a good command of basic computer skills, databases, inventory systems and email
  • Familiarity with Workplace Health and Safety procedures
  • A current West Australian ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
