Job Title: Maintenance Person / Handyman
Location: Based in the Peterborough area, covering all our residential children’s homes and supported living accommodations in Peterborough, Grantham, Long Sutton, Nottingham, Leeds, Doncaster, and other surrounding areas, as and when opened.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Person/Handyman to join our team, supporting the upkeep and repair needs of our residential children’s homes and supported living accommodations. This role is vital in maintaining safe, comfortable, and well-maintained living environments for our residents and staff. The ideal candidate will have a broad skill set and experience in general repairs, painting, decorating, and other maintenance tasks.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Proven experience in a similar maintenance or handyman role.
· Strong skills in general domestic repairs, painting, redecorating, and basic carpentry.
· Familiarity with fixing locks, doors, windows, and replacing broken glass.
· Knowledge of health and safety regulations and ability to work safely in vulnerable children’s home settings.
· Valid UK driver’s license and willingness to travel between sites (van provided or mileage reimbursed).
· Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
· A DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) will be required due to the nature of the work environment.

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

· Experience working in residential care or similar settings.
· Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge.
· Certification in a trade (e.g., carpentry, plumbing work) such as guild of master craftsman is desirable but not mandatory.

Work Location: In perso

1. General Repairs and Maintenance:
   o Fixing doors, windows, locks, and other household fittings.
   o Repairing and replacing broken or damaged furniture and fixtures.
   o Addressing plumbing and minor electrical issues (e.g., leaky taps, light replacements).
2. Painting and Decorating:
   o Preparing surfaces and applying paint, wallpaper, or other finishes to maintain a high standard of decor.
   o Ensuring areas are clean and tidy after completing work.
3. Glass and Window Repairs:
   o Replacing broken windowpanes and ensuring secure fittings.
   o Adjusting and repairing window mechanisms where needed.
4. Safety and Compliance:
   o Ensuring all work is completed to health and safety standards.
   o Carrying out routine maintenance checks to prevent issues and identify areas needing attention.
5. Emergency Repairs:
   o Responding promptly to urgent repair requests as needed.
6. Other Duties:
   o Assisting with basic carpentry, tiling, or flooring tasks when required.
   o Liaising with external contractors for larger repairs or specialized work.
   o Maintaining a log of completed tasks and reporting progress to the manager.
