Read below to see if the requirements might be a good fit for you: Position Summary Denver Botanic Gardens seeks a highly organized and technically skilled Maintenance Planner / Energy Manager to lead the planning, coordination, and performance tracking of maintenance operations across all Gardens facilities. This position is responsible for developing preventive and corrective maintenance plans, managing asset lifecycles, monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), and driving energy management and sustainability initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, analytical ability, and leadership acumen, with experience in optimizing maintenance performance through data-driven decision-making and resource efficiency. This position works closely with the Director and Associate Directors of Operations Maintenance, Security, and Custodial, and provides leadership as well as direct support and oversight for the Maintenance Crew to ensure the Gardens’ physical infrastructure operates safely, efficiently, and sustainably. Requirements General Duties and Responsibilities Maintenance & Planning Coordination Develops and manages weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance schedules through the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System). Assigns, monitors, and close work orders, ensuring completion targets, priorities, and quality standards are met. Tracks and analyze maintenance KPIs (e.g., response time, asset downtime, completion rates, cost per work order) to identify trends and drive continuous improvement. Prepares regular performance reports and dashboards for leadership review. Collaborates with internal teams and vendors to coordinate maintenance activities, special projects, and emergency responses. Asset & Energy Management Maintains accurate and up-to-date asset records, including specifications, warranties, maintenance histories, and lifecycle data in the CMMS. Conducts regular asset condition assessments to support lifecycle planning and capital project forecasting. Partners with the Operations facilities teams to track and improve energy efficiency, water conservation, and resource utilization across systems (HVAC, lighting, irrigation, etc.). Supports development and implementation of energy management initiatives, including benchmarking, metering, and performance tracking aligned with DBG’s environmental goals. Identifies and recommends upgrades or operational adjustments to reduce energy consumption and improve system reliability. Actively engages with bench-marking groups (APGA, USGBC) to raise Denver Botanic Gardens’ role in sustainability tracking. Project Support & Cross Department Collaboration Assists in planning and executing small capital or operational projects such as lighting upgrades, HVAC retrofits, and energy efficiency improvements. Works closely with the Sustainability and Operations teams to integrate environmental stewardship into all maintenance planning. Serves as liaison between the Maintenance Crew and Associate Directors of Security, Custodial, and Operations Maintenance to ensure seamless coordination and communication. Supports emergency preparedness and response efforts by maintaining operational readiness of critical systems. Administrative & Compliance Duties Ensures maintenance and repair activities comply with safety, environmental, and building regulations. Assists in preparing documentation and reports for internal audits, insurance reviews, and compliance inspections. Develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance, asset management, and energy monitoring activities. Supports procurement and vendor management by evaluating performance against KPIs and cost efficiency goals. Regular attendance at the worksite may be required. Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must have proven ability to multi-task in a busy environment. Ability to prioritize tasks and projects and the ability to deal with competing deadlines effectively. Minimum 5 years of experience in oversight of maintenance planning, facilities operations, or asset management in a complex facility setting. Demonstrated experience using CMMS platforms (e.g., Asset Essentials, Hippo, or similar). Strong understanding of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, irrigation) and related maintenance practices. Proven ability to collect, analyze, and act on performance data to improve operational outcomes. Working knowledge of energy management principles and sustainability practices. Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to all DBG sites. Ability to form and maintain lasting and effective/professional working relationships with co-workers and outside vendors is a must. Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public. Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations. Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans, when necessary, throughout the day. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams. Ability to work overtime as necessary. Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times. Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public. Must be committed to working safely at all times. Experience/Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Energy Management, Construction Management, or related field. Experience in KPI development, dashboard reporting, and data-driven maintenance optimization. Familiarity with energy tracking systems, building automation systems (BAS), or sustainability reporting tools. Project coordination or project management experience (PMP or equivalent certification is a plus). Travel: Up to 10% travel required. Requires the ability to travel to remote locations (or other Garden locations) where environment may vary significantly.
