QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation in power engineering from a recognized institution is a must
  • Relevant experience of 4 years, or a comparable combination of education, training, and experience
  • Certificate of competency as a 3rd class power engineer
  • Ability to communicate efficiently both in a verbal and written manner
  • Interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Physical ability to perform the job’s requirements is required
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings
  • Ability to use relevant machinery
Responsibilities
  • Communicating with Steam and Mechanical Systems Supervisor to guidance on maintenance and operational tasks
  • Maintaining various building systems such as medical air/vacuum, mechanical power generation, steam distribution, steam condensate, air conditioning (HVAC), and hot water heating
  • Using shop drawings and blueprints to reduce the operating impacts in patient care areas
  • Maintaining a clean workspace while ensuring that all work assignments are carried out in accordance with current regulatory codes, WorkSafe BC legislation, and established Hospital standards
  • Operating a variety of mechanical, pneumatic, and/or electronic control systems
  • Working on steam and hot water distribution system components including but not limited to piping, insulation, valves, expansion joints, seals, pressure reducing stations, pneumatic and electric motorized control components
  • Handling repair work on flow meters, steam traps, strainers, receivers, etc.
  • Monitoring, adjusting, and logging of control parameters
  • Acting as an Assistant Shift Engineer in the Steam Generation Plant during times of vacation and illness relief as needed
  • Give the Steam and Mechanical Supervisor recommendations on any system upgrades or improvements
  • Keeping track of all the materials, tools, and equipment on hand
