Description This is a part time role in maintenance, approximately 25 hours/week. The current shift is 6 am to 11 am, 5 days/week, Monday-Friday. Weekend shifts are occasionally needed. This position will be cross trained in other departments to occasionally assist where needed when maintenance tasks are complete. As other positions open in the store, this position may transition to a full time position that will be part time maintenance and part time deli, produce, stocking, or cashiering. Cooperators are cross-trained to work anywhere in the store: from cashiering and stocking shelves, to prepping produce and serving deli customers. They take personal responsibility for their work. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS CUSTOMER SERVICE Create a warm, welcoming, informed shopping experience through interactions with customers Provide outstanding customer service; uphold our Customer Service Commitment. Communicate customer needs that you cannot answer to Manager on Duty (MOD). Provide a proficient, accurate experience at the Point of Sale (POS). Complete daily cleaning tasks, cleanup/upkeep of personal areas, and other periodic cleaning. Maintain familiarity with all areas of the store in order to best assist customers. Use appropriate phone/intercom etiquette Communicate in a clear, direct, and respectful manner. STORE OPERATIONS Be dependable: show up/clock in on time, look professional, be prepared to do your job, be adaptable to change. Read the employee newsletter, departmental journals, and check in with the MOD to find out your role for your shift. Adhere to the Attendance and Break policies. Adhere to the Staff Agreement. Complete daily cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning sinks, toilets, and trash cans, cleaning large windows, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces, etc. Completing daily landscaping or snow removal tasks such as pulling weeds, watering plants, sweeping sidewalks, shoveling sidewalks and pathways, placing sand or salt on icy areas. Performing light maintenance and repairs to equipment as needed. Complete training events, meetings, and self-evaluations as assigned. Keep accurate records as directed. Keep workspaces and common areas clean and organized. Follow cleaning schedules, to ensure the store is clean and orderly, and meets customer service and health department standards. Communicate equipment needs or maintenance concerns to Coordinators and Managers. Adhere to store safety and conflict resolution procedures. Will occasionally help other departments such as deli, produce, grocery stocking, and/or cashiering. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements WORKING CONDITIONS Work in a retail grocery store. Work in temperature extremes (walk-in freezer, frozen or hot parking lot, hot kitchen, etc.). Utilize hand trucks, pallet jacks, grocery carts, knives, box cutters, electronic ordering devices. Utilize office machines, cash registers, tablets, computers, fax machines, scanners, photocopiers, telephone and intercom systems. Utilize commercial kitchen equipment. Utilize Google Workspace, Point of Sale, and payroll software. Properly handle hazardous cleaning materials according to MIOSHA protocols. If a minor under 18, must provide a Valid Work Permit per the State of Michigan Youth Employment Standards Act (YESA) prior to the first day of employment. Willingness and ability to learn and perform the requirements of the job. Able to work at least one weekend day/week, early morning, late evening, Bright and cheery disposition PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent. At least one year of experience in a retail, natural foods, or cooperative environment. PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS Ability to use computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and office equipment frequently. Ability to lift and carry between 20 and 50 pounds frequently. Ability to sit, stand, walk, potentially on uneven surfaces, for long periods of time. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, pull, push, twist, reach above shoulder height, climb stairs/ladders frequently, use electric walk-behind floor scrubber, mop, sweep, vacuum, and shovel snow. Ability to use fine motor skills for typing, grasping, manipulating objects with fingers. Ability to write or type reports, and complete checklists in written or digital format. Ability to read and interpret small print and alphanumeric product codes. Ability to work overnight, weekend and non-business hour shifts as required.
