Description At the direction of the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor, qualified applicant will perform skilled mechanical work and routine maintenance on the municipal vehicle fleet which includes heavy construction equipment, generators, trucks and automobiles. Assist in the maintenance and repair of small engines, tools, and equipment. Assist Public Works & Engineering personnel with emergency operations, comply with all safety procedures and policies of the Village, and perform other duties and special assignments as directed. Examples of Work Perform preventative maintenance according to manufacturer's specifications (oil change, lube, tire rotation, tune up, check and change filters, etc.) Inspect and service transmission, differential, brake systems, cooling system, hydraulics, clutch and fuel systems. Perform diagnostic engine analysis. Welding as required. Perform snowplowing, ice control and other emergency duties such as disaster services, water main breaks, sewer main excavations, etc. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be mechanically inclined with background in mechanical work or small engine repair. Certification in small engine repair or equivalent experience required in addition to two (2) years of work experience as a vehicle mechanic. Must maintain a valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License and possess considerable knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic power systems, automotive and equipment electrical systems, pumps, generators, and welding. Must demonstrate good work habits and dedication. Other requirements include the ability to work for extended hours in all weather conditions, and to provide physical exertion as found necessary in assisting or completing department activities. Requires the ability to drive and to operate department equipment. Requires working overtime as directed or as needed. SALARY AND BENEFITS This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a starting base hourly wage of $29.29 ($60,933 annually). The selected candidate will have the opportunity to advance a step within the salary range on an annual basis. This position is part of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150.
