JOB SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Technician 2 is a mid-level role responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining plastic injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and facility systems. This position requires a deeper understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to support production and minimize downtime. The technician works closely with operators, engineers, and other maintenance personnel to ensure efficient operations and continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • 2+ years of experience in maintenance within a manufacturing environment, preferably in plastics injection molding.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in troubleshooting and repairing industrial machinery.
  • Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Basic electrical knowledge, including reading schematics and troubleshooting electrical components.
  • Ability to use measurement tools, hand tools, and power tools effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Preferred:
  • Technical certification or vocational training in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of robotics and automation systems.
  • Familiarity with CMMS software for logging work orders and maintenance tasks.
  • Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the production floor for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling small tools, machine components, and molds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Comfortable wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching to access equipment and perform maintenance tasks.
  • Good vision and color perception for inspecting parts and identifying any defects or abnormalities.
  • Ability to work in temperature-controlled environments and withstand exposure to noise levels associated with manufacturing machinery.
  • Ability to receive, comprehend and utilize required training from OSHA and Company including but not limited to the following:
  • Hazard Communication
  • Lock Out/Tag Out
  • First Aid and CPR (optional)

Responsibilities
  • Assist in machine set-up/installation, including machine calibration, alignment, and validation of setup.
  • Diagnose and repair issues with injection molding machines, robotics, and auxiliary systems (dryers, chillers, thermolators, conveyors, etc.).
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals to troubleshoot and repair machinery.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical components of manufacturing equipment.
  • Assist in mold changes, including machine calibration, alignment, and validation of setup.
  • Utilize PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) for basic troubleshooting and fault diagnosis.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure equipment meets safety and operational standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and work orders in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Train and mentor Maintenance Technician 1 employees as needed.
  • Follow OSHA and company safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and suggest enhancements to maintenance processes.
