Entry salary is $34,398 ($16.54/hour) GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of basic preventative maintenance and repair tasks on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other mechanical systems in County buildings. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to carpentry, painting, grounds keeping, and custodial work. This position also provides assistance with minor building construction, renovation, and general carpentry work. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job duties satisfactorily. Paints buildings and structures, as required. Installs sheetrock in various facilities. Constructs walls and performs other carpentry duties. Installs carpet and other types of flooring. Provides maintenance on mechanical locking systems. Performs minor renovations. Performs preventative maintenance on buildings. Constructs and forms concrete. Lays construction blocks. Performs routine maintenance on various equipment. Assists with custodial duties. Assists with interoffice mail delivery. Assists with grounds keeping duties. Purchases materials, parts, supplies, etc. for work orders with County purchasing credit card according to County policy. Performs basic electrical work. Performs basic plumbing work. Performs basic HVAC work. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems. Good mathematical skills. Basic masonry, electrical, and carpentry skills. Customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to operate computerized equipment. Ability to safely use various hand tools. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year of experience in maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Required: Valid driver's license. Preferred: None. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is very heavy work which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This position has the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus). WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a demanding indoor and/or outdoor work environment; may encounter noise, weather, extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity, dust, odors, fumes, gases, poor ventilation, vibration, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, burn hazards, bio-hazardous waste, moving mechanical parts, or working in high places.
