  TITLE: Maintenance Technician  DEPARTMENT: Facilities     REPORTS TO: Trades Manager   CLASSIFICATION: Staff-12 months  EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD  STANDARD WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week  EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time   EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt     JOB SUMMARY:     Perform maintenance on all building systems for the University.  Work collaboratively with the Trades Manager. Troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on all building systems.  Maintenance Technicians will be responsible for maintaining all University buildings.    Facilities Department employees are considered “essential employees.” As such, all Facilities Department employees are required to report for work during emergencies as well as University closings.         ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:     * Troubleshoots all utility systems including electrical circuits, motor controls, and HVAC and steam plant (where appropriate). * Performs skilled maintenance duties in the area of HVAC monitoring/maintenance. * Performs advanced electrical duties such as installing receptacles, switches, breakers, and ballasts, replacing light fixtures, and power equipment repairs. * Performs advanced plumbing duties such as waterline repairs, valve repairs, and drain line maintenance. * Performs advanced carpentry duties such as dry walling, painting, door repair, installation of partitions, and installation of ceiling and floor tiles. * Performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment such as tractors, mowing equipment, and vehicles. * Snow removal during the winter months spread de-icing on patios and walkways. * Available 24/7 on an emergency basis when required or as assigned.     KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:     * General knowledge of building systems and building maintenance needs * Ability to prioritize, manage time, and coordinate multiple assignments  * Communicate with professionalism. * Comfortable working in environments where the temperature may be cold or hot. * The position may require special licensing for the operation of some equipment (i.e., forklift).     SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:   * This position does not have supervisory responsibility.      OTHER DUTIES:     * As assigned by supervisor.     QUALIFICATIONS:     * High school/GED and three years of related experience, or equivalent.   * Ability to follow instructions, and work independently or on a team * Good customer service skills     Licensing and Certifications: NA      WORKING CONDITIONS:     * Ability to continuously stand or walk * Staff may be required to move furniture and equipment.   * Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift frequently * Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, and 10-20 pounds on a routine basis * Physical ability to complete work assignments that may require climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, kneeling, crawling, pushing, and pulling     Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. At this time, Kentucky State University is unable to sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa  Internal Candidates are Encouraged to Apply.      KENTUCKY STATE UNIVERSITY is an Equal Opportunity Employer  The functions, qualifications, knowledge/skills, and physical requirements listed in this job description represent the essential duties of the job, which the incumbent must be able to perform either with or without reasonable accommodation. The Job Functions listed do not necessarily include all activities that the individual may perform.
