POSITION SUMMARY: The Maintenance Technician supports the day-to-day operations of the Penobscot Bay YMCA by helping keep our facilities safe, functional, and welcoming. Supporting the Director of Facilities, this role helps complete daily projects, respond to maintenance needs, and step in as needed to ensure smooth operations across all YMCA sites. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, repairs, and facility improvements, as well as hands-on support for the custodial team to maintain clean and safe spaces. The Maintenance Technician may assist with carpentry, painting, floor care, equipment/vehicle upkeep, and small repairs, and will also support pool operations to ensure safety and functionality. This role is essential to the YMCA’s mission, directly supporting programs for youth, families, and adults by maintaining the spaces our community depends on every day. Requirements ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Support the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and safety of all YMCA facilities, grounds and vehicles, in support of the Director of Facilities. Support custodial staff to ensure facilities are clean, safe, well-maintained, and welcoming. Perform general maintenance, repairs, and improvement projects and work orders in a safe, professional and efficient manner, including light carpentry, painting, basic mechanical work, and emergency repairs. Provide routine support for aquatic facilities, including assisting with pool maintenance tasks, monitoring facility conditions, and coordinating with the Facilities Director and Aquatics Director to ensure safe, reliable pool operations. Assist with vendor coordination and site visits (e.g., fire safety, security, pest control), and support compliance with all local, state, and federal facility-related regulations. Complete seasonal maintenance activities, including snow removal, salting and sanding, lawn care, hedge trimming, and deep cleaning of facilities during annual shutdowns. Assist with room setups and breakdowns for programs, events, and seasonal operations as needed. Operate motorized and non-motorized equipment as needed, including auto scrubbers, snow blowers, lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, and other tools. Monitor facility and vehicle safety during assigned shifts; promptly report hazards, incidents, or repair needs to the Director of Facilities. Perform other duties as assigned for the good of the Y. QUALIFICATIONS: Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, cleaning methods and other maintenance-related areas. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents. Basic computer skills to review and record maintenance work orders electronically, as well as basic understanding of Google Suite (gmail), Word and Excel. CPR, First Aid, AED, Certified Pool Operator certifications required within 3 months of hire (training provided by the Y). Ability to calmly and professionally respond to safety and emergency situations. Willingness to be on call for emergency needs when the Facilities Director utilizes PTO. Supervisory and project management skills, preferred Valid license with a clean driving record required. Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed. Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust. Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
