JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, The Maintenance Technician - Planner will work jointly and collaborate with Managers, Project Engineers, Operations, Maintenance Planners and Maintenance Technicians to coordinate and schedule all work activities for and support the Atura Power fleet of plants as needed. This position requires the skills to develop, manage, assess and carry out work plans to enable the effective completion of work activities across the work management system, executed safely, effectively, on time and according to its priority.
In addition to the planning duties, the Maintenance Technician – Planner will be required to complete routine maintenance activities, manage contract resources, and provide call out coverage on a rotational basis.
It is anticipated that the Maintenance Technician – Planner is expected to spend the majority of their time in the planning and scheduling of work, but maybe required to support the maintenance team in a hands-on capacity depending on operational and maintenance requirements. The allocation of their time will vary depending on the needs of the station and at the direction of the Maintenance Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification as a construction or industrial millwright or construction and maintenance 309A or Industrial Electrician 442A equivalent in the Province of Ontario, or completion of a college diploma in a related field is preferred. Experience in a power production facility will be considered an asset.
  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience in a planning, project coordinator or work management
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a trade certification and a certified Maintenance Management Professional (MMP), or Project Manager (PMP) with a minimum of two (2) years industry related experience.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel, Power Point, MS Project or other scheduling software
  • Solid understanding of the fundamental principles of Maintenance Management and analytical skills supported by use of applicable software applications
  • Strong capability to effectively utilize available resources and meet operation requirements
  • Strong leadership skills for delegation, negotiation, and consensus building to coordinate work to meet company objectives.
  • Related industry trade skills and knowledgeable about asset maintenance practices
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES – PLANNING

In addition to focusing on work scheduling and coordination of short to intermediate term activities, achieving high levels of productivity, safety, equipment reliability and availability and environmental compliance, the Maintenance Technician - Planner will:

  • Develop and prioritize weekly to six-month area work plans incorporating maintenance programs, regulatory compliance activities, project support and corrective maintenance work
  • Plan/manage efficient resource schedules to support major and minor outages, projects and routine maintenance
  • Develop work execution plans and detailed resource schedules to provide direction and coordination of project activities within the area
  • Ensure work orders and other required documentation are created and properly scoped and reported for all work in the area
  • Manage the work plans to ensure that corrective work and work backlog items are incorporated and opportunities to bundle and combine work are identified and all work is resourced as required
  • Utilize regional contracting strategies, including supply of parts and vendor services, to ensure required resources are available to complete the work as per the plans
  • Act as the area contact to all departments for short term planning issues, resource availability and updates/progress reports for all major area work
  • Collaborate and support other Maintenance Planners as needed within the Atura Power fleet
  • Provide regular assessments and reports of work plan completion and variances
  • Incorporate revisions and ensure accuracy of entity information and maintenance programs that are modified at a local/regional level
  • Performing safe work practices in line with company and OHSA policies and procedures
  • Scheduling and reporting in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Outage planning and contractor supervision during and outside of outages
  • Manage plant level procurement and inventory management
  • Assist in evaluating the PM program for continuous improvement

RESPONSIBILITIES – MAINTENANCE

  • Troubleshoot and repair failed and faulty equipment as required to maintain safety, environmental compliance, availability and reliability.
  • Provide active control duties for external contractors during and outside of outages
  • Select the proper tooling and equipment to maintain mechanical equipment including, but not limited to:
  • Rotating equipment: pumps, motors, fans, blowers, turbines, compressors, etc.
  • Piping systems and valves.
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
