JOB SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Technician performs routine preventive maintenance and repairs to ensure the safe and efficient operation of production equipment, building and facilities repairs. Key responsibilities include upkeep of the WIC site, production machinery, packaging lines, milling and seed treatment systems, as well as greenhouses plumbing all lab repairs. Additional duties involve maintenance, facility lighting, vehicles, and forklifts. The role may also include installation of equipment as needed. The technician operates various tools, machinery, and farm equipment, working under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and supporting the implementation of maintenance programs and initiatives across all sites.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Must have the ability to safely maintain and perform repairs on a variety of equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of construction, plumbing, and fabrication skill, along with general maintenance practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
  • Ability to perform accurate and detailed work under time constraints and deadlines.
  • Must be available for extra hours, weekend work, or alternate shifts during the harvest season.
  • Ability to communicate electronically and use basic computer functions to report progress and complete work-related tasks.
  • Ability to manage stress effectively when dealing with critical projects, tight deadlines, or high workloads.
  • Must conduct all work in a professional and respectful manner. • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Must wear the uniform provided by Sakata while on duty.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Basic computer skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Compliance with CALOSHA, OSHA and other regulatory agencies

EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND:

  • Farm background highly desirable.
  • Metal welding fabrication and wood construction skills highly preferred
  • Basic electrical skills
  • Forklift and heavy equipment experience and certifications as needed.
  • HVAC skills/knowledge
  • Plumbing skills
  • Mechanical and Electrical repair. Welding certification preferred
  • Electrician certification preferred
  • Heating & refrigeration repair school preferred
Responsibilities
  • Travel to other Sakata sites and departments as required, for assignments lasting up to one week at a time self-motivated and able to manage tasks independently.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager to support maintenance activities across the WIC site and other Sakata locations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on warehouse equipment and facility buildings to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Address and resolve safety issues related to equipment and facilities in a timely manner to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist with special projects, including operational equipment upgrades, facility modifications, and seasonal preventive maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and perform repairs on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety protocols, procedures, and policies.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to maintenance service requests across all sites and departments.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify and address potential safety hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery in a safe and efficient manner to complete maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Maintain and repair operational machinery, including packaging lines, milling equipment, seed treatment systems, and related equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on greenhouses, plumbing repairs and general upkeep.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
