Job Description PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Fulfil the assigned responsibilities and exercise delegated authorities in accordance with the post requirements applicable to maintenance within the Hillside Laboratory. RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct regular plant inspections to detect and resolve problems. Plan and manage all laboratory equipment repair and installation activities. Attend to both electrical and mechanical breakdowns. Assess breakdowns and apply appropriate fault-finding techniques. Maintain and/or repair low-level and high-level mechanical and electrical equipment. Ensure adherence to scheduled preventative maintenance. Develop, itemize, and maintain the critical spare list. Prepare and report progress on maintenance done on the day. Keep and control the record of available critical spares and spares. Assist staff with daily tasks (Technical and advisory capacity where needed). Check and test furnace/oven operations every month and keep the required documents. Ensures that all tools required to carry out tasks are available. Performs stand-by and does emergency call-outs and breakdowns. Accountable for time keeping and materials recorded on the job request document. Support efforts to overcome operational problems. Ensure that equipment logbooks are filled and signed off. Attends the Client’s weekly maintenance prioritization meetings. Compile and consolidate the work order reports. Recommend issues that can improve the area's performance. Ensure that appropriate PPE is always worn. Ensure that all relevant SHEQ documents are always adhered to. Maintain and uphold all the SHEQ-related requirements. Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the direct line manager. Always maintain acceptable housekeeping standards within general and designated work areas. Comply with and conform to the Laboratory Quality Management System in accordance with ISO9001:2015 requirements. SPECIFIC AUTHORITIES Any employee has the right and authority to refuse to perform work that may result in imminent and serious harm to the environment, and to immediately report such situations. Has the authority to stop the use of any equipment or halt any activity that is deemed to pose a health and safety risk and/or may compromise the quality or integrity of services, and to report the matter to the appropriate higher authority for corrective action. Has the authority to cease work activities that may adversely affect the quality or integrity of services, and to escalate such situations to a higher authority to ensure timely investigation and corrective action. Qualifications REQUIRED SKILLS Education Minimum Requirement: Matriculation with Mathematics and Physical Science. N3 Engineering Studies / Millwright artisan trade certificate. Experience At least five (5) years’ relevant maintenance experience in a mining or smelter, or related laboratory. PLC experience will be advantageous XRF, XRD, Spark OES, LECO, Pulverizers (powder milling machines), and Mastersizer experience will be advantageous Working in a multi-team environment. COMPETENCIES Demonstrates competence in the effective use of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and/or Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for data entry. Possesses the ability to troubleshoot on analytical instruments and analytical methods, and to identify, investigate, and resolve routine technical and maintenance-related issues. Maintain good working relationships with OEM technicians. Additional Information COMPLIANCE & AUTHORITY Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or entry to hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection, and take action to address the hazard. Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and take action to address the issue. Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified, or when nonconformity is identified.
Responsibilities
