Job Purpose The Utilities Technician provides primary support for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of utilities equipment, including chillers, cooling systems, cooling towers, boilers, steam systems, RO/soft water equipment, HVAC, electrical substations, and low- and high-pressure compressed air systems. This role supports an aseptic manufacturing environment and ensures utilities operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities Operate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain utilities equipment. Monitor, maintain, and improve the reliability and performance of utility systems. Perform work order repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment rebuilds, replacements, and adjustments, including complete documentation. Manage and coordinate work performed by contractors. Fabricate, modify, and innovate new or existing equipment to improve performance and reliability. Maintain a safe working environment and ensure good housekeeping standards. Collaborate with team members to plan, analyze, and improve process quality. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with utilities equipment such as chillers, boilers, compressed air systems, and HVAC. Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and general computer applications. 5–7 years maintenance and troubleshooting experience with industrial mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Ability to navigate Building Management Systems (BMS) and utilize trends/data for troubleshooting. Excellent organizational and time‑management skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create detailed reports. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and drawings. Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Preferred Qualifications Post‑secondary education or technical trade certification. EPA 608 Type II or Type III Refrigerant Handling Certification. Boiler Operator certification. Industrial Refrigeration (Ammonia) certification. Experience with precision maintenance tools and techniques (lubrication, alignments, vibration, ultrasound, etc.). Food Safety Responsibilities Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that may affect product quality or food safety. Understand and follow color‑coded container policies in Production Areas. Perform duties in compliance with Company, Customer, and Government food safety standards. Take action to prevent nonconformities related to food safety or product quality. Identify and document food safety or quality issues. Prevent further processing or shipment of nonconforming product until issues are resolved. In the event of absence, duties may be assumed by another employee with equivalent skill level. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, lifting, bending, climbing, kneeling, crawling, and reaching. Exposure to loud noise, dust, dirt, sparks, oil, smoke, and varying indoor/outdoor environments. Use of PPE such as hearing protection, hair/beard nets, safety shoes, gloves, hard hat, and safety eyewear. Regular use of machinery, tools, and equipment including forklifts (gas and electric), telehandlers, scissor lifts, articulating man‑lifts, power tools, test instruments, welding and cutting tools, and computers. Work performed in both manufacturing and outdoor plant environments. Must follow all PPE, sanitation, hygiene, and GMP requirements.
