ABOUT US
Nova Scotia is rich in natural resources – including biodiversity, forests, provincial parks and the land we manage. The Department of Natural Resources and Renewables is responsible for the development, management, conservation and protection of forest, parks and wildlife resources and the administration of the province’s Crown land. Together we are working with Nova Scotians to build a better future through sustainable natural resource management as we all benefit from the natural health and wealth of the province.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The yearly cycle includes seeding, thinning, transplanting, growing, and packaging forest seedlings. These tasks are critical in allowing the Nursery to achieve its production targets and produce high quality forest seedlings.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Previous forest nursery or greenhouse experience would be considered an asset. Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations; a valid NS Class 5 Drivers License (or equivalent); a valid First Aid Certificate and WHMIS training are also assets. Knowledge of mechanical and machinery maintenance will be an asset as well as Class 3 driver’s licence with air brakes.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
