Job Description
REPORTING TO: Maintenance Supervisor/General Services Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum 2 years building maintenance experience, preferably in an institutional setting.
  2. Possess technical competencies related to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC.
  3. Class 5 Power Engineer Certificate would be an asset.
  4. Ability to read and write English as well as to understand verbal and written instructions in English.
  5. Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined which includes ability to maintain regular
    attendance in addition to work in a very dynamic environment.
  6. Valid drivers license required and ability to be on-call after hours.
  7. Demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care to residents.
  8. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete assignments in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the director of the Maintenance Supervisor, or designate, the Maintenance person performs
preventive maintenance tasks, including preventive maintenance checks, building inspections and minor
on demand repairs, but not limited to heavy duty cleaning and grounds maintenance/work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To complete the Extendicare preventative maintenance program and to follow the program,
    document and adjust the program to include any equipment that is not covered and needs to be
    documented for Accreditation purposes
  2. Carries out repairs to malfunctioning equipment as directed.
  3. Checks regularly the operation of all mechanical equipment as directed.
  4. Assists in the maintenance of adequate inventory of maintenance supplies, tools and spare parts.
  5. Carries out necessary grounds work such as lawn mowing and watering, and snow removal as
    scheduled, keeping exits and walkways clear at all times.
  6. Performs janitorial responsibilities as scheduled or required including garbage removal.
  7. Makes general building repairs such as: touch up plastering, painting, and other similar work.
