EDUCATION

Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

EX1: Experience in providing general labour services to support grounds, roads, and facilities maintenance.
EX2: Experience using snow removal equipment.
EX3: Experience working in a team environment.

ASSET EXPERIENCE

AEX1: Experience shovelling snow for Parks Canada.
AEX2: Experience shovelling snow in a commercial environment.
AEX3: Experience operating a skid steer.
AEX4: Experience using fall arrest systems.
AEX5: Professional cleaning experience.

KNOWLEDGE

K1: Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.

ABILITIES

A1: Ability to perform work according to specifications/instructions.
A2: Ability to operate and maintain associated equipment effectively and safely.
A3: Ability to prioritize work.
A4: Ability to work without direct supervision.
A5: Ability to effectively perform physically demanding general maintenance work.

ASSET ABILITIES

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and personal protective equipment.
  • You will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • You must be willing to work and travel in a variety of terrains and weather conditions in the performance of the duties.
  • You will be required to work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays as scheduled by your delegated manager.
  • Candidates will be required to undergo and meet the requirements for a medical examination/pre-employment medical examinations and/or periodic medical checks.
  • This position will be required to report to work in Rogers Pass, BC.

The position requires the incumbent to:

  • Consistently lift wet snow
  • Conduct repetitive tasks
  • Lift supplies, tools and equipment
  • Travel to various outdoor sites with exposure to adverse weather conditions
  • Make moderate* to heavy** physical efforts and to stand for prolonged periods
  • Moderate is defined as lifting 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.

**Heavy is defined as lifting 100 lbs maximum with frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Provides general labour services to support grounds, roads, and facilities maintenance in the winter as well as providing some cleaning support and supporting the asset code compliance monitoring program. Perform basic maintenance and repair of tools and equipment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the snow clearing of walkways, doorways, propane tanks, and cornice removal on buildings in Rogers Pass, B.C., including backcountry bridges. Rogers Pass is well known for accumulations of snow up to 10 metres per winter. In addition, general maintenance and repair or cleaning tasks may be assigned.
