DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to a Facility Area Supervisor (FAS), the Maintenance Worker is responsible for the daily monitoring and upkeep of Campus Services’ equipment and buildings. This includes performing repairs and maintenance within code regulations across various building operation disciplines such as mechanical, plumbing, electrical, appliances, food service/day-care equipment, carpentry, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

The Maintenance Worker also:

  • Assists the Maintenance Worker–Lead Hand in scheduling and coordinating the daily tasks of casual summer maintenance staff as part of the Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Assigns labour, equipment, and tools needed for maintenance activities and monitors progress, providing weekly updates to the FAS.
  • Provides training and technical guidance to casual summer staff.
  • Maintains daily and monthly inventory of parts, tools, and equipment, and orders supplies when necessary.
  • Notifies the FAS when external support (e.g., specialized trades, fire and safety, contractors) is required.
  • Contributes input to annual budgeting and both short- and long-term planning.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma
  • 5th Class ABSA Ticket is required
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence (Non-GDL) to drive University vehicles
  • First Aid, CPR (certificate), WHMIS, Customer Service, and Asbestos Removal training are assets
  • Supervisory, technical, trades-related and computer courses diploma/certificate - optional
  • Must be able to perform duties in a variety of trades, schedule, coordinate, train and supervise the activities of skilled and semi-skilled personnel
  • Must have the technical and administrative abilities in order to prepare and conduct the items mentioned above
  • Three to five years of building operation experience required
  • Customer Service and Residence Life training/familiarity is an asset
  • Basic computer training is an asset
  • Any job-related courses: appliance repairs, air-conditioning, building codes requirements, etc, are considered an asset

Responsibilities
  • Monitors equipment and building conditions daily; performs maintenance and repairs across multiple trades within code requirements.
  • Supports scheduling and coordination of summer casual staff for the Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Performs administrative tasks related to maintenance operations.
  • Liaises with Residence Life, students, the public, university departments, and contractors as needed.
  • Participates in one three-week “Afternoon” shift annually and is on standby approximately every nine weeks.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
