WHO WE ARE

The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to 150 agencies such as housing agencies, women and children’s shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.
Our mission is providing healthy food to those in need. Our vision is to create healthy communities through fair and effective food systems. Currently, the GVFB receives, purchases, and distributes 8 M lbs of food each year.

This is a full-time, permanent position, with the opportunity to learn and grow. The successful candidate can expect a competitive base salary of $80,000 annually, depending on experience.

  • Experience with fundraising software, reporting and databases; iWave and Raiser’s Edge experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of national standards of ethical fundraising, best practices, policies, and related guidelines.
  • Knowledge of emerging issues, trends, programs, and opportunities in fundraising locally.
  • Good understanding of CRA guidelines and other legislation and/or regulations pertaining to fundraising and/or not-for-profits
Responsibilities

POSITION OVERVIEWTHE MAJOR DONOR OFFICER PLAYS A KEY ROLE WITHIN THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM, DRIVING THE CREATION AND EXECUTION OF A COMPREHENSIVE, LONG-TERM STRATEGY TO ENGAGE AND STRENGTHEN RELATIONSHIPS WITH BOTH CURRENT AND PROSPECTIVE MAJOR DONORS – GIVING, OR WITH THE POTENTIAL TO GIVE, A GIFT OF $25,000 AND ABOVE. THIS ROLE ACTIVELY CULTIVATES STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH MAJOR DONORS (INDIVIDUALS), EXPLORING THEIR PHILANTHROPIC GOALS AND THE GVFB FUNDING PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST.

This is an exciting time to join the GVFB’s new Major Gifts team. We have just completed our first ever Capital Campaign and are now developing our inaugural Major Gifts program. This role will have the opportunity to lead our first major donor portfolio, and help shape this program from infancy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and develop a portfolio of major donor relationships with potential for $25,000+ donations including; cultivating, soliciting, stewarding and thanking donors through personalized communications to ensure they have a high-quality donor experience partnering with the GVFB.
  • Set annual financial goals for major donors, and design and implement tailored solicitation plans throughout the year to achieve financial targets.
  • Build and maintain a healthy major gift pipeline, ensuring regular movement and attrition rates, and tracking all movement and communication in the CRM.
  • Develop and implement tailored 1:1 communication and stewardship plans for all major donors in the major donor relationship portfolio, ensuring they receive regular, personalized and thoughtful communication on the GVFB and the impact of their support.
  • Proactively identify, research, and prioritize prospective major partners whose values align with the mission and strategic goals of the GVFB.
  • Develop and deliver persuasive, well-crafted proposals to potential major donors.
  • Develop strong relationships with individuals, including through 1:1 meetings, calls, written documents, and emails.
  • Tour donors and prospects through the GVFB facilities to connect them to our work and the impact of their support.
  • Collaborate with other development team members, such as the Annual Giving Officer, to build strong relationship plans for donors that fall into multiple funding programs and ensure the healthy development of the wider Development donor pipeline.
  • Support with the development of GVFB funded programs and projects, collaborating closely with key departments such as Operations and Finance to identify and update core information and relaying this to donors.
  • Represent the GVFB at relevant events to raise organizational awareness and cultivate new partnerships.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all communications and actions with major donors on Raiser’s Edge.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
