Description
Overview Responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding philanthropic relationships and investments at the high five, six, and seven figure level in support of Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. Manages a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, builds strong relationships with alumni, grateful patients, community leaders, and institutional partners, and develops tailored strategies to secure transformative support for medical education, research, clinical priorities, and community health initiatives. Responsibilities Manages an active portfolio of major gift prospects capable of making gifts at the $100,000+ level, with emphasis on six and seven-figure opportunities, conducts face-to-face visits, discovery conversations, and ongoing relationship management and develops individualized cultivation and solicitation plans aligned with annual performance metrics and portfolio health goals. Designs and executes strategies to secure significant philanthropic commitments supporting institutional priorities; prepares written proposals, gift agreements, and stewardship plans in collaboration with development and academic leadership; and closes major and principal-level gifts through strategic, donor-centered solicitation. Partners closely with assigned Brock VHS faculty leaders and program directors to identify funding priorities and create compelling donor opportunities; facilitates meaningful engagement between donors and campus leaders to deepen trust, alignment and investment. Contributes to a collaborative fundraising culture within the Development & Alumni Relations team, participates in campaign initiatives, special events, and strategic planning efforts that advance Brock VHS philanthropic goals. Ensures exceptional relationship building through participation in salon events, special events, stewardship and recognition events and opportunities, and other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications and Skills Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of 5 years of progressive fundraising experience, preferably in higher education, academic medicine, or nonprofit advancement. Demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships with high-net-worth individuals and key stakeholders. Proven track record of securing major gifts at the five- and six- figure level, with experience working toward seven- figure opportunities. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proposal and solicitation experience. Ability to develop and execute major gift fundraising strategies. Proficiency with donor databases and CRM systems (e.g. Raiser's Edge, Salesforce) Preferred Qualifications Experience fundraising in an academic health sciences or complex university environment. Demonstrated success closing gifts of $100,000+ or higher. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential preferred but not required. Master's degree in a related field (higher education, healthcare administration, business or nonprofit management) is a plus. Location : Location US-VA-Norfolk
