Description

Full job description

Harper May is working with a London-based multi-channel retailer that operates across 40+ stores and a growing digital platform. The business is backed by experienced retail investors and has delivered consistent growth over the past three years through a combination of store expansion and omnichannel capability. The Finance team is now strengthening its capability to support more granular commercial analysis across the expanding estate.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will own the preparation and analysis of monthly management accounts, with a focus on translating financial data into commercially actionable insight. This role sits at the centre of the business - working closely with store operations, buying, and merchandising teams to understand performance drivers and support decision-making across the P&L.

  • Prepare and reconcile monthly management accounts, including detailed variance commentary
  • Conduct deep-dive analysis of sales, cost of goods sold, and overhead spend by store and channel
  • Support working capital management, including cash forecasting and inventory valuation
  • Build and maintain financial models to support business planning and scenario testing
  • Review and challenge performance data with operational teams; escalate anomalies
  • Lead balance sheet reconciliations and support the external audit process
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial reporting and control procedures

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified, or actively progressing through a professional qualification
  • Prior experience in retail, hospitality, or another multi-site trading environment
  • Proficiency in Excel and exposure to financial reporting systems; Sage or Xero familiarity valued
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, evidence-based analysis under time pressure
  • Comfort engaging with non-finance colleagues; able to explain complexity without jargon
  • Methodical approach to work; strong attention to detail and process discipline
