Management Accountant – Mt Isa
Kogan People Solutions, specialist recruiters, have partnered with a forward-thinking regional council in Mount Isa, as they seek to recruit a skilled experienced Management Accountant. The newly appointed Management Accountant will play an important role in driving financial performance, supporting budgetary planning, and enhancing cost management across council operations.
The Council, committed to delivering high-quality services and fostering sustainable development across the community, will provide an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong analytical skills and a collaborative mindset to thrive and enjoy a delightful rural environment. The role is full time and ongoing.

Responsibilities
  • Preparation and analysis of monthly financial management reports for various stakeholders, including commentary to accompany management reports and P&L reporting
  • Analyses of operating costs, income and expenditures, including budget outcomes.
  • Ongoing analysis of corporate structure, investment and growth plans, all operational issues and providing quality reporting.
  • Regular cash flow statements.
  • Input to the ongoing development of council budget and accounting policies.
  • Stat Accounts across all reporting cycles.
  • Assisting with internal and audit queries as they relate to the position’s core responsibilities.
  • Quality assurance and input into preparation of statutory reporting and compliance obligations (such reporting extends to TIDS, private works and R2R claims; and
  • Ongoing quality involvement across all areas of responsibilities and as required, across the finance function more generally.

To be considered, we expect to see: -

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 1 or more years (preferably more) highly relevant professional experience gained since you acquired your qualifications, ideally within the government or public sectors.
  • Well developed time management and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Demonstrated Office and Accounting software skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian accounting standards and applicable taxation law; and
  • Progress towards CPA or equivalent
  • Current “C” class manual license (or ability to acquire such a license prior to commencement)
