Description
We are looking for a Management Accountant to sit at the heart of our project finance function. You will report to our CFO and work embedded with the operations team — tracking project costs, producing forecasts, and giving our site and project managers the financial picture they need to perform. Our finance team has two people. One handles compliance, statutory reporting, and the general ledger. You handle the project ledger, cost tracking, commercial analysis, and anything that helps the business understand how its projects are actually performing versus what we tendered. What You Will Be Doing Core — Project Financial Reporting • Run cost tracker P&Ls across multiple active projects, comparing actual costs against tendered amounts in real time. • Produce project-level forecasts showing where each project is likely to land from a profit perspective with time remaining. • Analyse variances between actual and tendered costs — not just identify them, but understand why they exist and what they mean. • Provide clear, practical financial insights to the operations team to support cost control and performance improvement. • Work across both our project ledger and general ledger, including internal costings for fleet and people. Supporting — Cost Norm Review • Periodically review the cost benchmarks used by our tendering team to ensure they reflect current real-world costs. • Flag where norms have become outdated — for example, where flight costs to site have moved significantly from the standard rate being used in tenders. • Work collaboratively with the tendering team to keep their cost assumptions accurate and commercially sound. Supporting — Billing Accuracy Check • Act as a financial second-check on project billing — ensuring rate increases, price adjustments, and contract milestones have been correctly applied before claims go out. • Work from a contract summary document to identify what should have happened and verify it has been processed correctly. • Flag discrepancies to the commercial and operations teams for resolution.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on tracking project costs, producing financial forecasts, and analyzing variances between actual and tendered costs. It also involves reviewing cost benchmarks and ensuring the accuracy of project billing.
