DEPARTMENT HEAD - MANAGEMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
The Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business is seeking a highly experienced and well-qualified individual to head the Management and Entrepreneurship (M&E) Department. The department head leads and collaborates with the twelve full-time faculty and eight part-time adjuncts in the M&E Department and teaches in graduate and undergraduate programs in the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business (BSB). Faculty military experience is not a requirement at the Citadel, but the faculty do support and participate in the military-based experience of the College and BSB by wearing a military uniform in the classroom. The M&E Department’s Management major and Entrepreneurship minor were both launched in 2020. These programs have experienced rapid growth in demand for undergraduate and graduate courses. The Department offers classes for the Cadet-day (face to face) program, online College Transfer Program, and online MBA program. Departmental course offerings cover the fields of Traditional Management Theory, Organization Behavior, Human Resources Management/Development, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Small Business Management, Business Law, Business Ethics, Management Information Systems, Business Analytics and Strategy (the capstone course). The Citadel’s commitment to developing principled leaders is emphasized throughout the curriculum.
The Citadel has been ranked the #1 Public College in the South, offering up to a master’s degree, for twelve consecutive years, and one of the Ten Most Innovative Schools in the South by U.S. News and World Report. The innovative M&E academic programs are taught in Bastin Hall, a new building that opened in Spring 2021. The faculty are members of an established, collegial team dedicated to producing principled leaders in all walks of life, including some (not all) students who are commissioned into military service after graduating. The BSB is AACSB-accredited (the most recent reaccreditation review in 2025 was highly successful) and offers a traditional, military-based residential undergraduate program to South Carolina Corps of Cadets members in a military college setting. (Cadets and faculty wear uniforms and share aspects of the military training experience.) In addition, The Citadel offers two non-residential programs for other students: an online undergraduate degree completion program and an online MBA program.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. or D.B.A. from an AACSB-accredited or equivalent university in one or more of the M&E Department’s disciplines. The academic credentials of the successful candidate will document 10 years of highly rated management and entrepreneurship teaching experience in both traditional and online formats. He or she will have an active research record of publishing in highly respected and recognized management academic journals (ABDC and Cabell’s listed). Preferred qualifications will include administrative experience in leading and directing a program or scholarly management department with recruitment, course planning & scheduling, faculty mentoring & evaluation, and community service.
The candidate will have demonstrated significant service activities for academic, community, and professional institutions. Candidates should have a record of achievement (publications, teaching, and service) that warrants an appointment as a tenured Associate Professor or Full Professor at The Citadel. The 10-month appointment of the Department Head will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Citadel Department Head appointments are for a 5-year term (renewable).
The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to coordinate with other departments in the BSB, participate in and lead BSB committees and college-level committees, and make collaborative decisions. Candidates should have experience with student advising, degree program management, and demonstrate an ability to envision and clearly articulate evolving M&E course and program requirements and work with the college Registrar to help students make progress toward graduation.
