Description

A first level manager with direct responsibility for managing people in accordance with policies, processes, and procedures of the unit. Manages advising staff on advising principals / standards. Performs as a subject matter expert when identified as a resource for special projects or strategic requests. Establishes strategy and vision, and oversees both student orientation process and survey courses. Assists with redesigning course objectives, format or content in line with ABET requirements. Coordinates and plans logistics and assesses content, delivery and learning outcomes of both orientation and the survey course. In addition to project deployment, responsibilities may include professional development for staff, performance management, and determination / communication regarding pay. Provides and documents one-on-one advising for specific student groups. Advising load will increase during peak scheduling periods.
Master’s Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years Advising Experience. Thorough understanding of programs, policies, and specialty areas. Able to apply and operationalize student development theories in training and practice. Understands and follows FERPA guidelines; stays abreast of changes to implementation of FERPA; trains, interprets, explains FERPA guidelines to colleagues and stakeholders. Expert understanding of programs and specialty areas, and the interactions between academics and policies. Historical knowledge of academic advising profession, including ability to adapt to changing trends and deliveries of advising. Able to apply theory to practice; creates training programs to develop skills in advisors. Demonstrates superior communication skills; able to discuss detail, depth, context, rationale and implications. Utilizes adaptive relational and supervision skills to supervise and mentor. Understands complexity of academic choices & combinations, and interactions in degree planning (minors, dual degrees, academic enhancement, etc.). Able to understand and train advisors on understanding the logic, meaning, and outcomes of curriculum; understands and communicates the value added from liberal arts program. Detailed understanding of Title IX, NCAA, HR, Student, and Academic requirements and policies.
The target hiring range for this job profile is $58,700 - $77,200. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, education, years of relevant experience, and internal equity.
