ABOUT THIS POSITION
What makes your role interesting? You’re involved in technology that really matters, in sectors such as semicon, healthcare, and marine. Within the Defence, Safety & Security unit, we focus on an accelerated move into the manufacturing industry in the coming years to make acoustic sensor and measurement technology more widely applicable. And we need your talents to make this happen. You lead the Acoustic Sensor & Measurement Systems research group: a team of bright minds working on this cutting-edge technology. You make sure they can do their jobs well. Will you make your mark on our time at TNO?
From aircraft panel inspection to flexible blood pressure gauges and measurement systems for the Near Field Industry. And from detecting underwater drones before they cause damage to reliable communication between autonomous submarine systems during maritime missions. These are just a few examples of the innovative projects your department (a group of about 30 independent and enthusiastic professionals) is working on.
As a department manager, you don’t have to be a content expert. Your focus is on encouraging the personal and professional development of team members. You’ll conduct regular meetings, support project managers, and oversee the quality, progress, and risk management of projects. You’ll also ensure a safe and healthy working environment. In addition, you’ll regularly coordinate with market managers within the DSS and HTI units. Together, you’ll ensure that the developed technology ends up in the right places. To make the job even more interesting, you’ll form the management team of the Acoustics and Underwater Warfare division with the science & technology manager, the market manager, three fellow research managers, and the divisional director.
Additional information: This group was formed as a result of a split from the current Acoustic Sensor & Sonar Systems group, which has grown considerably in recent years. To manage the expected further growth, we will be splitting the department into two research groups from 1 January 2026. You’ll start in 2025 as the right hand to the research manager of the current large group. From 1 January 2026, you’ll become an independent manager of the Acoustic Sensor & Measurement Systems group (name subject to final approval).
