We are looking for an individual with a passion for natural sciences to join our team as a Manager of Biological Sciences for our Alberta team, based out of either our Calgary or Edmonton offices. Specific experience in managing a team of professionals, and technical experience in completing or managing baseline assessments and impact assessments is preferred. The successful applicant will have professional accreditation and can bring their experience to our public and private sector clients. Although the position will be based in Alberta, we anticipate working on projects throughout Western and Northern Canada.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental sciences or a related field.
  • Professional designation (i.e., P.Biol, P.Ag. or equivalent), with a minimum of 15 years of experience.
  • Multidisciplinary team/staff management.
  • Drive for business development.
  • Strong knowledge and practice of environmental regulatory requirements in the Western Provinces and Northern Territories.
  • Experience with regulatory and stakeholder consultation, coordinating with technical teams and contractors, leading technical deliverables, and supporting public consultation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with industry standard resources, tools and best practices as well as provincial environmental legislation and policy (proficiency under municipal and federal jurisdictions is considered an asset).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and the public. Public consultation experience is an asset.
  • A strong track record in Health and Safety management.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of biologists and ecologists in conducting biophysical assessments.
  • Lead and mentor a team with respect to regulatory coordination and permitting of projects in a dynamic work environment.
  • Recognized for expertise in chosen area of specialization, with a general understanding of other disciplines.
  • Project manage complex multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Senior technical lead on complex projects.
  • Senior technical review of proposals and technical documents.
  • Frequent and effective interaction with clients, regulatory agencies, other team members, and the public. Provide technical advice to clients at a senior manager level.
  • Contribute to business development by maintaining a high standard of project performance, identifying potential opportunities, maintaining key client relationships, developing marketing materials and leading proposal efforts.
  • Lead major proposals including scopes of work, cost estimates and formal proposal submissions.
  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and technical experts in biology and environmental science.
  • Lead, mentor, and support junior team members.
  • Stay current on technical and sector-based trends and legislation at the municipal, provincial and national level.
