Description

THE FUTURE OF GAS AND ELECTRIFICATION

  • Gas is an essential service in Victoria, and it will be for decades to come. Our priority is to continue safe and reliable gas supply to our gas distribution customers in Western Victoria.
  • We believe there is potential for the gas network to play a role for supporting the energy system through the transition with renewable gas. The challenges this brings to the Gas Network are interesting and complex to solve.
  • Maintaining a safe and reliable gas network, supporting price stability, and seeking equitable outcomes for customers through the energy transition will require ongoing dialogue and a coordinated approach.
Responsibilities

As the Manager of Asset Management & Engineering, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of asset management, engineering, and analytical professionals, driving the performance of AusNet’s Gas Network. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the network meets AusNet’s expectations by strategically balancing risk, asset performance, and cost with an asset lifecycle view.
In this pivotal role, you’ll shape and execute robust asset management and maintenance strategies, continuously monitor asset class performance, and proactively identify risks and opportunities, particularly those influenced by external industry drivers.
Beyond technical expertise, success in this role requires strong influencing skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships across and beyond the Gas Network—fostering collaboration and alignment with broader business objectives.
The ideal candidate is analytical, industry-aware, confident in navigating complex challenges, and a natural collaborator and influencer who builds strong relationships to drive meaningful impact.
With a Hybrid split (Office/WFH), this role is based in South Bank and is part of the Network Management Team, with occasional travel to site within Victoria.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Provide personnel and process safety leadership, continuously setting expectations high for Network Safety
  • Forster the development and growth of the team members and drive strong employee engagement
  • Drive development of a comprehensive set of Asset Management and Maintenance Strategies that balance and manage risk, asset performance and cost with an asset lifecycle view
  • Influence and maintain relationships outside the Gas Network Management Department and Gas business, to drive business and Asset performance outcomes
  • Maintain a positive and influential relationship with key Regulatory bodies and ensure Asset compliance is monitored and tracked to satisfaction
  • Drive Risk Assessments on key Asset risks identified. Ensure risks are documented, managed and communicated via Asset Operational Risk Registers and asset defect register
  • Ensure investment scopes are efficient and consider the future network strategy
  • Responsible for a consolidated view to Asset Replacement programs and other Opex related work programs. Support the enterprise Capex, Opex and Access Arrangement Planning cycles
