JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Auto Transport Dispatch and Logistics is responsible for overseeing, optimizing, and executing high-performance transportation management solutions for the movement of trucks, autos, and freight between ocean terminals, warehouses, and railroad ramps.

Primary Objectives

  • Manage prioritization, scheduling, coordination, and execution of deliveries for multiple business units along West Coast-to-Hawaii routes and Southern California dealer deliveries.
  • Monitor, analyze, and improve key performance metrics, including drayage costs, per diem expenses, transit times, and vendor performance.
  • Enhance customer service and quality by implementing best practices, resolving logistical issues, and maintaining strong communication with all parties.
  • Lead and manage Dispatch teams, company drivers, and third-party vendors to ensure timely, efficient, and compliant transportation operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate dispatching operations, including Terminal-to-Terminal and Terminal-to-Dealer deliveries, ensuring the efficiency of westbound Hawaii cargo movement.
  • Monitor Hawaii Eastbound cargo for agreed trucking connections.
  • Proactively identify and resolve logistical challenges, collaborating with internal teams, customers, and external vendors to develop effective solutions.
  • Manage and track driver performance, delivery timelines, and operational costs while implementing strategies for improvement.
  • Confirm accurate and timely communication of E.T.A. updates, voyage cut-off requirements, and early arrival notifications to advance vehicles from future voyages.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate company drivers and vendor partners to ensure operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage fleet maintenance and repairs, ensuring company trucks are properly maintained and invoices are reviewed and approved per company policy.
  • Manage operational continuity by providing backup training for key dispatch and logistics functions.
  • Minimize driver grievances and material penalties through direct management of driver relations and proactive issue resolution
  • Develop, audit, and manage customer rate structures in collaboration with senior management.
  • Maintain and oversee performance records, control logs, and dispatch-related documentation while ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Analyze data and generate reports on operational efficiency, driver productivity, and cost management to drive continuous improvement.
  • Work cross-functionally with liner support teams and other departments to enhance customer experience and optimize logistics workflows.
  • Manage compliance with vendor interchange policy agreements to avoid unnecessary storage and per diem charges.
  • Drive continuous process improvements, recommending and implementing best practices for dispatch and logistics operations.
  • Act as subject matter expert on end-to-end automotive voyage planning and reservations, providing guidance and resolving escalated issues.
  • Establish and maintain vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, monitoring service levels, and resolving disputes as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or related field, or equivalent combination of coursework and experience in directly-related field required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid state-issued driver license and acceptable driving record required
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential required

Work Experience

  • 5+ years’ related experience in dispatching and line haul carriage operations required
  • 2+ years’ supervisory or leadership experience required
  • Vehicle and capacity planning experience within the transportation and logistics industries, including experience scheduling and coordinating deliveries required
  • Experience working with third party vendors, contractors, and suppliers required
