<>The Manager, Business Partnerships reports to the Chief of Rail Commercial and Business Development and is responsible for leading and expanding strategic partnerships to drive revenue growth and improve business outcomes for Caltrain. This position will oversee the execution of complex business initiatives, and secure partnerships that strengthen Caltrain’s revenue and financial sustainability goals. The Manager will also play a key role in developing and managing stakeholder relationships with public, private, and nonprofit entities, ensuring alignment with Caltrain’s long-term financial strategies.

Lead the development and execution of business strategies and ensure alignment with Caltrain’s overall financial and operational goals and strategic priorities. Act as a key strategic partner in defining and pursuing new revenue streams.

  • Design and implement business plans that drive revenue growth through innovative programs with the focus on institutional deals and various rail asset monetization, and other commercial ventures such as city and developer partnerships around Caltrain stations and other real estate assets.
  • Lead the identification, cultivation, and management of strategic partnerships with public agencies, private organizations, and nonprofit entities, to create mutually beneficial arrangements.
  • Oversee the negotiation, execution, and management of partnership agreements, with the focus on Caltrain’s Go Pass program, and ensure alignment with Caltrain’s strategic, financial, and operational objectives.
  • Serve as a liaison between Caltrain and business partners to ensure effective communication and the smooth execution of partnership activities.
  • Lead cross-departmental efforts to integrate partnerships into broader Caltrain business initiatives. Work closely with the finance, operations, marketing, and external relations teams to align business partnerships with financial targets, operations, and marketing strategies. Identify and assess potential risks related to business partnerships and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership based on data-driven insights, supporting Caltrain’s long-term business goals.
  • Leverage data to evaluate the performance of partnerships and institutional transit programs, informing strategic adjustments and business decisions.
  • Supervise staff. Hire, mentor and take appropriate corrective and/or disciplinary action. Ensure EEO policies and procedures are followed. Participate in selection, coordinate staff training and professional development, objectives, monitor and evaluate employee performance.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead strategic business development projects aimed at expanding revenue through asset monetization, sponsorships, and other partnership-driven models.   • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure partnerships are fully integrated into business operations and financial planning.
  • Represent Caltrain’s business interests and foster external relationships by participating in public meetings and events
  • Drive the development of business initiatives and solutions, supporting the expansion of revenue through institutional partnerships, sponsorships, and innovative fare programs.
  • Develop performance metrics and dashboards to track and report on the success of programs and partnerships, providing actionable insights.
  • Support senior leadership with strategic recommendations based on data insights and performance analysis, influencing long-term business decisions.

    Sufficient education, training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, marketing, financial analytics or a related field.

  • Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in business development, partnerships, business intelligence, data driven decision making, or strategy, with a strong emphasis on public transit.
  • Two (2) years of experience managing or directly supervising staff

Preferred Qualifications:
