ABOUT THE ROLE
As Manager, Business Services, you will be part of the senior management team and lead the directorate’s governance, planning, and implementation of strategic health and safety programs and strategic initiatives across the department. You will oversee a high-performing team responsible in a high-volume centralised reporting environment ensuring that all initiatives are evidence-based, coordinated, and aligned with departmental priorities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing a team of professional staff to deliver high-impact health and safety projects and services
- Driving strategy and governance across complex projects, ensuring alignment with policy, legislative and regulatory requirements
- Managing contracts, reporting, data analytics, finance, and stakeholder engagement functions to ensure programs are efficient, effective, and well-communicated
- Building and maintaining strong partnerships across government and non-government sectors, including representing the department on inter-agency committees
- Overseeing team capability, professional development, and a high-performance service culture
- Preparing high-level reports, submissions, and briefing notes to support executive decision-making
- Analysing performance against strategic targets and making evidence-based recommendations for continuous improvement

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE
- Tertiary qualifications and training from the fields of business administration/health or incident management or leadership and/or equivalent work history and experience.
- Experience in managing and leading a team
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience leading strategic programs or projects in a complex, high-volume environment
- Strong governance, reporting, and planning capabilities, with a focus on achieving measurable results
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and build staff capability in a high-performance culture
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with experience representing an organisation at interagency or executive levels
- Advanced communication and writing skills, including the preparation of high-quality briefs, reports, and submissions
- Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills, with the ability to monitor and report on performance against strategic objectives
- A deep understanding of relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, and health and safety policy in a government contex
