About the Division The Research Infrastructure Division is a newly centralised, university-level division that reflects UOW’s strong commitment to advancing and optimising its major research infrastructure and assets. The Division is driving a step-change in how research facilities are managed—enhancing accessibility, efficiency, and financial sustainability across the University’s core platforms. Through strategic leadership and expert coordination, the Division oversees key operational teams and facilities including the Electron Microscopy Centre, ANFF Materials Node, Materials Analysis Facilities, and the Human and Animal Facility. This unified approach ensures UOW’s state-of-the-art infrastructure continues to enable high-impact research and strengthen collaborations with industry and external partners. About the Opportunity As Manager, Chemical and Materials Analysis Facilities, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of advanced instrumentation and analytical services that underpin UOW’s research excellence. Leading a team of skilled technical officers, you will ensure the delivery of high-quality support to both internal researchers and external partners. You will drive continuous improvement in processes, training, and equipment performance to maximise accessibility, reliability, and impact. Working collaboratively with academic and industry stakeholders, you will align facility capabilities with UOW’s strategic research priorities while identifying opportunities for commercial engagement and sustainable revenue growth. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional with a strong background in chemistry, materials science, or related disciplines who is ready to step into a management role in a dynamic research environment. What You’ll Bring A PhD (or equivalent experience) in chemistry, materials science, or a related field. Proven leadership in managing technical teams and scientific operations. Demonstrated ability to manage financial resources including budget oversight and cost-recovery model implementation Understanding of academic research environments and ability to support diverse research disciplines and methodologies is desirable Experience in managing a complex scientific or technical facility, preferably within characterisation, analytical, or materials science environments Strong skills in communication, stakeholder engagement, and financial management.
