JOB DESCRIPTION:

Sun Life’s Climate Strategy and Performance team acts as a central resource across the business for GHG emissions data collection, inventory and analysis, delivering on enterprise-wide emissions reporting and third-party assurance, monitoring performance against climate-related objectives, and enabling the creation of climate resilience roadmaps and enterprise-wide climate resiliency strategy. This central climate team works closely with sustainability teams from across Sun Life’s business groups, business units and regions in which we operate.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

Sun Life is looking for a new team member to join our Climate Strategy and Performance team to support climate strategy development and implementation, working directly with the Director of Enterprise Climate Strategy.
Our ideal candidate is passionate about sustainability and has experience working in the development and implementation of climate and environment strategy. This team member will have responsibility in partnering with teams across the business to define climate-related goals and develop roadmaps to achieving those goals, bringing together key considerations such as climate-related risks and opportunities, data-based decisions, best practice and external benchmarking, key business drivers, and more.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Establish and deliver climate resiliency roadmaps in collaboration with business groups and drive the coordination of climate-related strategies across the enterprise, including developing metrics to measure outcomes against both internal objectives and external benchmarks
  • Advance the enterprise’s climate resiliency strategy, integrating climate-related strategic work from across the organization into an enterprise approach in line with business priorities and strategic objectives
  • Engage with key stakeholders across the enterprise to identify and embed climate resiliency efforts into each business’ strategic plans and support in the establishment of new processes to report on progress against plans
  • Partner with teams within the broader sustainability function including climate risk, performance, governance, reporting, among others to coordinate and craft enterprise strategic priorities pertaining to climate change
  • Lead enterprise strategy on participation within the Voluntary Carbon Market and execute annual purchases with partners
  • Provide insight and advice on best practices pertaining to climate resilience planning including awareness of voluntary and regulatory climate strategy and disclosure requirements, and providing direct support to preparing sustainability-related reporting and disclosures
  • Create and support the review of enterprise-wide climate-related communication materials, including internal communications and external publications and reports
  • Support across the team with evolving climate-related deliverables and projects as required
