The Clinical Engineering / HTM Operations Manager provides operational leadership for the Clinical Engineering program within an Academic Medical Center. The role ensures the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of medical and research-associated devices across inpatient, outpatient, procedural, teaching, and investigational environments. This position is responsible for day-to-day service delivery, staff leadership, regulatory readiness, and coordination with clinical, academic, research, IT, and facilities stakeholders. Manage daily operations of the Clinical Engineering / HTM department, ensuring timely maintenance, repair, and technical support of medical and research-associated equipment. Supervise Biomedical Equipment Technicians (BMETs), senior technicians, and specialty technical staff, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and competency assessment. Establish and monitor operational performance metrics including response time, preventive maintenance compliance, corrective maintenance trends, and equipment availability. Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS Conditions of Participation, NFPA, AAMI standards, manufacturer requirements, and institutional policies. Provide technical inspection, maintenance, and safety evaluation of investigational or research-associated devices when approved for institutional use. Maintain documentation and audit readiness for equipment used in patient care, teaching, and research environments. Coordinate equipment onboarding/support activities for construction, renovation, simulation labs, teaching spaces, and research areas. Partner with clinical leaders, academic programs, research teams, IT, facilities, and vendors to support operational readiness and service continuity. Serve as an escalation point for equipment-related issues impacting patient care, academic activities, or research operations. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor’s Degree required. Experience: 4+ years relevant professional experience, to include 2+ years formal managerial experience required. Licensure: Valid Virginia Driver’s License (VADL) PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. The starting base rate for this role is $84,374.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
