SUMMARY:

The Manager, Community and Public Affairs plays a key role in strengthening relationships between the facility and local community. Leads the facility’s community engagement strategy, oversees the Community Relations Board (CRB), and represents CoreCivic in civic forums, nonprofit partnerships, and local events. Collaborates with the CoreCivic Public Affairs team on media relations and crisis response and provides support to facility leadership and legal counsel with litigation coordination.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred.
• Three years of experience in community relations, public affairs, communications, or government affairs is required.
• Experience in corrections, law enforcement, or another highly regulated industry preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with civic leaders, community organizations, and elected officials.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to serve as a credible and professional spokesperson.
• Excellent writing, presentation, and project management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications is required. Familiarity with media monitoring tools is preferred.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Ability to travel locally and domestically for meetings, training, or community events.

• Manages the Community Relations Board (CRB), including recruiting members, organizing meetings, and ensuring consistent follow-up on issues and concerns.
• Leads the facility’s community engagement strategy to build trust and strengthen relationships with civic groups, nonprofit organizations, business leaders, and local residents.
• Represents the facility at local civic groups, community forums, and public events, serving as a visible and approachable leader.
• Supports facility leadership and attorneys with litigation communications and discovery coordination as needed.
• Partners with CoreCivic’s Public Affairs team to coordinate local media inquiries, crisis communications, and proactive outreach.
• Prepares community communications such as newsletters, updates, talking points, and correspondence for the Warden and leadership.
• Monitors community issues, public policy developments, and local sentiment to inform leadership of decision-making.
• Identifies opportunities for sponsorships, volunteerism, and partnerships that enhance CoreCivic’s role in the community.
• Maintains confidentiality and ensures all communications comply with CoreCivic policies, ACA accreditation, PREA standards, and contractual requirements.
