Title: Manager, Cost Accounting Location: East Region Job Type: Full-Time | Exempt About the Role: The Manager, Cost Accounting oversees all aspects of the cost accounting function, ensuring accurate inventory valuation, managing the month-end close process, and providing strategic insights to drive profitability. This role leads a team of cost accountants, maintains compliance with internal controls and company policies, and collaborates with cross-functional teams, including operations, to optimize financial performance. What You’ll Do: Cost Analysis & Reporting Analyze production costs (materials, labor, overhead) and other expenses to identify cost drivers, trends, and variances Prepare detailed management reports highlighting cost performance measures Cost Systems Management Design, implement, and maintain effective cost accounting systems and procedures aligned with business requirements Inventory & COGS Management Oversee accurate inventory valuation and cost of goods sold (COGS) Manage and coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle count programs, ensuring reconciliation with the general ledger Budgeting & Forecasting Support annual budgeting and forecasting by providing cost information and conducting variance analysis Cost Control & Optimization Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements Conduct cost-benefit analyses for new initiatives or capital investments Compliance & Audits Ensure all cost accounting practices comply with GAAP and regulatory requirements Support internal and external audits Team Leadership Hire, train, mentor, and supervise cost accounting staff to ensure department goals are met Oversee the team’s work to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistency What You’ll Bring: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required 5-7+ years of progressive cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., D365/F&O, Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards) required Advanced Excel skills required; experience with Microsoft Dynamics preferred Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and methodologies (standard costing, variance analysis, labor/overhead absorption) Experience with internal control frameworks (e.g., SOX) required High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills Ability to maintain data integrity and confidentiality Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with non-financial stakeholders Ability to travel up to 30% for physical inventory counts and operational site visits Even Better If: You hold a CPA or CMA certification You have knowledge of the cannabis industry Compensation: Competitive compensation based on experience, along with opportunities for growth and development within a collaborative, high-performing team.
