Description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join our team as a Manager of Custom Mechanicals Strategic Sourcing. As a people manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of Global Supply Managers (GSMs) across multiple locations, including Seattle, Sunnyvale, and China. The Manager of Custom Mechanical GSMs will develop, drive and execute a new product category with Reality Lab at Meta. We are looking for individuals who desire to be on the ground floor of a breakthrough technology and help build a world-class supply chain. This individual is responsible for the team driving supplier business management activities for custom mechanical categories. This person will work closely with Industrial Design, Hardware Engineering, Technical Program Management, Finance and Technical Operations during the product development cycle from prototype to mass production to ensure successful product launch. The person will lead sourcing activities related to new technologies and innovative manufacturing processes to realize design intent while optimizing quality versus cost, driving sustainability and championing continuous improvement throughout the lifecycle of products.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of sourcing experience, with at least 5 years of experience managing Asia-based suppliers in commodities
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in mechanical processes, including familiarity with mechanical components supply base
  • Working knowledge in all or any of the following areas: plastic injection molding, compression molding, stamping, forging, CNC machining, die-casting, soft goods, and related manufacturing processes
  • Experience in supplier evaluation/selection, should-cost modeling, contract negotiation, and supply base management
  • Demonstrated experience in building bottom-up should-cost models and leading comprehensive negotiations with suppliers
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with experience in managing high-performing teams
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build partnership with internal and external stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel (10-15% of time) and work with different time zones

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA or Master of Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with high volume, consumer electronics products
  • Experience with managing CMs, ODMs, OEMs
  • Sourcing experience in custom mechanical parts, assemblies, and modules
Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of Global Sourcing Managers in managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and driving cost savings initiatives
  • Develop and implement a mechanical sourcing strategy that ensures Reality Lab’s product roadmaps and business requirements are met
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Hardware Engineering, Technical Program Management, Finance, and Technical Operations, to ensure successful product launches
  • Drive early supplier engagement in New Product Introduction (NPI) and New Technology Introduction (NTI) programs
  • Establish mechanical supplier selection criteria, evaluate suppliers, and manage the supplier selection process
  • Negotiate master agreements and Statements of Work (SOWs) with suppliers to establish best-in-class pricing, flexibility, quality, delivery, payment, warranty, and service terms
  • Formulate contingency plans to de-risk technical challenges, long lead times, single source, and non-cancellable/non-returnable (NCNR) supply issues
  • Lead design and cost trade-off conversations during development stages to influence production design and manufacturing processes
  • Develop and implement supplier performance measurement systems and conduct periodic supplier business reviews
  • Influence the direction of suppliers’ business investments and roadmaps to align with Meta’s strategic goals for mechanical technology development
  • Lead total cost reduction programs to achieve the lowest possible total cost
  • Utilize should-cost models to inform negotiation strategies, identify cost reduction opportunities, and optimize supplier pricing
  • Enable the introduction of new enclosure designs, materials, and Color, Material, Finish (CMF) technologies to support product roadmap and targeted user experience
  • Build relationships with peers and stakeholders on organization-wide initiatives, obtaining alignment on objectives and articulating strategy
  • Proactively identify new opportunities outside of their functional area and lead cross-functional organizational initiatives to drive innovation and growth in mechanical categories
