Mercy For Animals is seeking a strategic and systems-minded Manager, Donor Experience & Direct Response to help grow and strengthen our direct response fundraising program. Reporting to the Senior Director, Advancement Operations & Donor Experience, this role translates established strategy into structured, scalable, and data-informed plans that support revenue growth and deepen donor engagement. The Manager partners closely with internal colleagues and external agency partners to execute integrated, omnichannel fundraising and stewardship efforts that support acquisition, retention, sustainer growth, and donor progression. This role focuses on building repeatable systems, strengthening donor journeys, and ensuring supporters experience clear, consistent engagement with Mercy For Animals’ mission. You will do invaluable work: PARTNER TO BUILD & OPERATIONALIZE AN INTEGRATED DIRECT RESPONSE STRATEGY * In partnership with the Senior Director, external agency partners, and internal Marketing colleagues, contribute to the development and execution of an integrated, omnichannel direct response and stewardship calendar. * Translate strategy and revenue goals into structured operational plans, segmentation frameworks, channel coordination plans, and performance targets. * Ensure alignment across digital, email, SMS, paid media, direct mail, web, and emerging platforms to create a cohesive donor experience. * Support defined revenue, acquisition, retention, sustainer growth, and upgrade goals across direct response segments. STRENGTHEN SUSTAINER & DONOR PROGRESSION  * Build and execute communication plans that increase monthly giving conversion, improve retention, and drive upgrades. * Design scalable, automated donor journeys that support progression from first gift through mid-level transition. * Develop and manage structured communication tracks that support donor handoff and long-term engagement. BUILD SCALABLE, TECHNOLOGY-FORWARD DONOR EXPERIENCES * Leverage CRM and marketing automation tools to design segmented, repeatable communication flows that elevate the donor experience and increase efficiency. * Coordinate testing and optimization roadmaps with agency and digital marketing partners; track results and translate insights into improved strategy. * Document donor journeys, segmentation logic, and campaign frameworks to institutionalize knowledge and ensure continuity. * In collaboration with Development colleagues, build and manage communication plans and engagement workflows for giving societies and recurring donor communities. COORDINATE CROSS-FUNCTIONAL CAMPAIGN EXECUTION * Lead project management for direct response campaigns and stewardship touchpoints from concept through reporting, ensuring clarity across internal teams and external partners. * Oversee segmentation plans, content workflows, testing calendars, and production timelines while guiding specialist-level staff. * Maintain documented, repeatable processes that increase scalability and reduce friction. USE DATA TO DRIVE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT * Monitor and report on KPIs including revenue, acquisition, retention, sustainer performance, upgrade rates, and lifetime value. * Analyze donor trends and recommend adjustments that strengthen performance and donor progression. * Contribute insights that support forecasting and long-term revenue sustainability. BY THE END OF THE FIRST 12–18 MONTHS, YOU WILL HAVE: * Implemented a structured, integrated, omnichannel direct response program aligned to revenue goals and strengthened performance across acquisition, retention, sustainer growth, and donor upgrades. * Built scalable, automated donor journeys that support progression from first gift through recurring giving and into mid-level engagement pathways. * Established clear, documented campaign workflows, segmentation frameworks, and playbooks that improve efficiency and cross-team alignment. * Delivered consistent, actionable reporting that informs planning and decision-making. Your qualifications will take our Fundraising team to the next level: * 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, annual fund, direct response, digital fundraising, or donor engagement roles. * Demonstrated experience managing integrated, multi-channel fundraising or stewardship campaigns. * Experience using CRM and marketing automation tools to build segmentation strategies, donor journeys, and scalable communication workflows. * Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate complex initiatives across multiple internal and external stakeholders. * Experience using data and performance metrics to evaluate results and inform strategic adjustments. * Strong written communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate high-level strategy into structured, actionable plans. * Commitment to Mercy For Animals’ mission and values. * Commitment to continued personal and organizational growth in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice principles.  About Your Team Leader Amanda Rainey is chief philanthropy officer of Mercy For Animals, overseeing philanthropic relationships with individuals and organizations. Amanda leads the development of comprehensive, strategic fundraising plans and brings more than 20 years of dedicated leadership in the nonprofit sector, specializing in fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. She has expertise in capital campaigns, corporate partnerships, digital fundraising, and strategic partnerships and is known for tenacity and an unwavering commitment to driving long-term sustainability and impact. Amanda earned her master’s in education from Indiana University and her bachelor’s in education from Southeast Missouri State University. She has also earned the CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) credential. Compensation and Benefits (exempt).  Earn an annual salary of $66,730 to $79,700 depending on qualifications, and enjoy a commute-free life as a remote team member.
