JOB SUMMARY:

A working manager that leads and directs personnel responsible for performing advanced distribution system analyses such as steady state power flow, short circuit analysis, transient studies, and resource interconnections. The manager also leads and directs personnel responsible for creating and maintaining distribution planning tools, distribution models, distribution design applications, web server applications and project management tools.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of six (6) years of electric utility or power engineering experience, including expertise and experience in the Distribution, system modeling, and load flow analysis.
Requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Texas

Responsibilities
  • Drive continuous improvement mindset and develop innovative processes, procedures and/or tools to support Distribution Planning needs.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and defend the studies (DDP’s and NLR’s) and analysis completed by the Distribution Planning team as well as the resulting DDP’s and NLR’s.
  • Distribution Planning performs Distribution System studies for all load resources and reviews the additional load needs for batteries (DDP’s and NLR’s).
  • Distribution Planning teams perform all studies related to loads, including determining and mitigating operational impacts of loads on the distribution system.
  • The manager must have sufficient experience to be able to identify issues with studies and system modeling and to be able to direct engineers about how to resolve those issues.
  • Provide expert testimony regarding analyses performed by the DDP’s and NLR’s as needed to support regulatory filings and provide other necessary regulatory support such as responding to discovery requests.
  • Represent CenterPoint Energy on applicable regulatory workshops, working groups, user groups and cross functional teams.
  • Manager participates in ERCOT working group meetings and workshops related to Distribution System topics and reviews ERCOT protocols and guides.
  • Manager reviews PUC rules and participates in the PUC rulemaking process related to requirements for additional loads.
  • Ensure efficient and timely submittal of load studies reports and load pre-screen responses.
  • Operate and recommend more efficient CYME applications, modules, and licenses.
  • Operate and input data into the EDE web server, web applications, and dashboards.
  • Create and maintain analytics tools for tracking Distribution Planning load studies.
  • Engage with vendors, other utilities, as well as technical and professional organizations such and EPRI, SWEDE, DistribuTech, and SEE.
  • Support Distribution Planning and develop and maintain tools necessary to manage Distribution Development Plans (DDPs) and New Load Requests.
  • Provide support for DDPs and NLR’s and the work performed by Distribution System planners.
  • Conduct performance reviews, counsel and prepare development plans for direct reports. Coach and develop employees including providing training and development opportunities.
